DataWedge is an Application provided by Symbol/Motorola to enable the scanning module also for application without the driver. Scanned barcode is sent like an usual keyboard input.
There can be just one active application using the barcode scanner. If you are running DataWedge, you would need to stop it before starting any other application with built-in scanner drivers.
To stop DataWedge just click on the barcode icon in a right down corner and select - Disable DataWedge

Operation error when scanning

Ensure you have the most up-to-date drivers for your i1420: http://graphics.kodak.com/DocImaging/US/en/Support_Center/Document_Scanners/Departmental/i1420_Scanner/Support/Drivers_And_Downloads/i1400_Series_Scanner_Drivers/index.htm Looks like v3.09 is the most recent. If you are unsure of your version, download and install v3.09, if your drivers are out of date, the install will update your drivers. Test the scanner using the Scan Validation Tool (SVT). This program should be located in the Kodak folder in your start menu. SVT will test the scanner's functionality at a basic level alleviating all third party software variables. Please consult your owner's manual if you are unsure how to initiate a scan in SVT. If the 1420 scans perfectly then you need to contact IRIS for support: http://www.irislink.com/c2-2365-189/IRISPowerscan---High-Speed-Scanning-Software.aspx

I have Mustek 1248US. Can it scan to PDF?

Scan to PDF is controlled by your software. What OS and software are you running? Under Windows, Nuance's PaperPort, http://www.nuance.com (or OmniPage which includes PaperPort) or Abby Fine Reader Express, http://www.Abby.com , both will let you scan to PDF. Open the software and set the options for scanning to PDF. Then press the scan button in the software. (Depending on the OS and Mustek driver, you may get this to work by pressing the Scan button on the scanner itself. This depends on installing a monitoring program that may be included in the drivers. This "listens" for the button press and then launches the desired software.) Other third-party software may also do this.

If you are using something like Windows Fax and Scan, you'll have to do two steps. Scan and then convert the file from an image to PDF. (There are dedicated programs that convert image files to PDF or you can do this is Microsoft Office or other office suites with the appropriate add-on.)

I hope this helps.

(I have an older scanner with Windows 7; I can only scan to PDF with third-party software.)

I have a Canon 4200F scanner and recently purchased a new computer with Windows 7 that is 64 Bit. When I try to use the scanner get a message that I need a WIA driver to use this device. Can you please...

Hi bjgestel !
This means there is no more support from HP for your unit under Windows 7 but Windows has a compatible driver included in it's system ( WIA ) .
The scanner should run smooth but with some restrictive functions . Normaly , it should run without having installed the HP XP driver/ sofware . If this not your case , there is a workaround after you installed the XP driver and made sure installation was successfull . The scanner will need to run with a third party application . Download FreeKapture from
http://download.cnet.com/FreeKapture/3000-2094_4-10673689.html
Launch Freekapture , clic on Scan , select WIA-Hewlett-Packard . Your scanner will run . If you choose HP's software, program will hang .
Note : no slides or negatives scans possible in WIA mode but the rest works .

Good luck !

Hi there! where can I find driver for the Acer Scanner: Scan Prisa 124OUT?

You won't find a Windows 7 driver for this scanner. The solution I found was to use some third party scanner software like VueScan. VueScan provides independent driver support for the 1240UT and gives you the scanner's full functionality and more.

I have a HP 5550 SCANNER.And i bought a hp laptop with windows 7. but the scanner doesnt support windows 7. what can i do??

The basic driver for Vista may work. http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?prodNameId=77362&lang=en&cc=us&taskId=135&prodTypeId=15179&prodSeriesId=77360 (select the appropriate version 32-bit or 64-bit)

Alternatively, try connecting the scanner to the computer and loading a generic WIA driver from the OS.

In either case, if they work, you will not be able to use the buttons on the scanner to launch scans. Instead use Windows Fax and Scan (New Scan) or Paint (File > Import from Camera or Scanner) to acquire scans. (You can also acquire scans in Photo Gallery if you download and install that software from Microsoft. Alternatively, you can buy a third-party software for scanning and OCR.)

I hope this helps.

(I've gotten other older scanners to work with basic drivers; it's worth the shot even without the full-featured software.)

Unable to scan after install windows vista home premium w sp 1

You don't have bi-directional communication between the all-in-one and the computer. (If you launch the scan command from the computer, Windows Photo Gallery, Paint or a third-party program). Solve this with a new USB cable. If you are using a print server or USB hub, try a direct connection.

If you can't launch the scanner from the buttons on the all-in-one, that is due to the fact that you are using the driver in the Vista OS. HP does not offer a full-feature software for this printer for Vista.

In Paint, to acquire a scan: File > Import from Camera or Scanner, Choose Scanner then New scan.

I hope this helps.

When I try to open the Scanner software the following comes up... Error = 4 Could not confirm scanner connection. Please check scanner connection. When I try to open the easyscan Utility I get the following...

Minolta's crummy software is notorious for this. Most people can't get it to work even by removing and reinstalling the driver software. The best solution is to use a third-party driver software called VueScan. You can download a trial version for free to see if it works before you commit to buying it. If this doesn't solve it, you most likely have some sort of hardware problem.

Cannot scan

Does specifically the scanning software freeze or is it the application your scanning into? For example....does it freeze if you insert a picture into word using TWAIN as a source?

If it is actually the scanning component that freezes I would look for third party software that might be conflicting with it. Scan using Adaware or Spybot for spyware, remove the Google desktop and Yahoo toolbar applications if installed, and look for other similar programs like the HP picture viewer which tries to pull media from SD cards and cameras and may be similarly trying to access the scanner.
