My washing machine won't stop filling up with water on the beginning cycle or the rinse cycle the water is overflowing. Can someone tell my what to do? Help!
Water level is controlled by what is called a "pressure switch" -- Based on the dial setting you select for small, medium, or large loads the switch is electronically set to engage at different pressures to start the wash cycle. The most common reason for water continuing to fill and overflow is an obstruction in the tubing that runs from the load size selector switch to the pressure switch or from the pressure switch to the drum. The pressure switch itself rarely goes bad, the load size selector switch is a more common issue.
It takes a bit of doing to get at these parts... start at the load size selector switch. Obviously that is located in the control panel of your washer and is the switch you physically turn to selct the load size. I assume if your trying to fix this yourself that you can use common sense on how to remove the head unit or control panel to access the switch, the process will differ based on your brand or model of washing machine...
Once your looking at the load selector switch you'll want to remove the plastic tube and blow into it, then suck on it like a straw, then blow again. You'll hear the pressure switch click and feel resistance. Now you can put the tube back on, start your machine and monitor to see if it stops filling and start agitating properly, just doing that will work many times because the obstruction is caused only by grease.
If that did not work, you'll want to get at the pressure switch itself, which will require pulling the machine out and taking off the back panel of your machine. Follow the tubing down from the load selector switch to the pressure switch and remove the tubes there, you'll likely find and obstruction in the tubing... usually thick grease or lint. Now reassemble and try again, use the small load setting, water should stop filling by itself and the wash cycle should start.
If your machine still wants to overflow, the last thing I would try is replacing the load size selector switch itself. It can be tested with a multimeter, but since we have eliminated the other 2 most common causes of overflowing at the beginning of a wash cycle, I would simply obtain the part and swap it out.

Try resetting your water level control. If that doesn't help then set the water level control to the lowest setting and observe if level exceeds that setting. If so, you may possibly have a faulty water level control, or an obstruction in the air dome or water level control hose. This can be a tricky 1 to diagnose for a novice.

turn the power off if the water stops it most likley a pressure switch problem or the pressure tube on the side of the outer tank may have pulled off.if you turn the power off and the water doesnt stop then the valve is faulty (cold)if it was on the rinse.hope this helps.
