I have the same power up, shuts itself down in about 3 seconds.

I pulled all speaker wires, and it still shuts down.

Unplugged the receiver power for an hour, no change.

Changed the power source away from the monster power filter and directly into the wall, no change.

I am glad I kept the trusty old 1973 Marantz around; plugged it in and it works fine for now.

I also have the same problem with my 1500 but only in winter when the unit is started in a cold room. When I warm up the room it works fine.

The unit is in protect mode. There is a problem with the last stage of the amplifier section and the unit shuts down to prevent further damage. The most common cause if this is shorted output transistors. If you are comfortable with soldering, you should be able to repair this. Check the transistors attached to the heatsink for a shorted condition. Replace them in pairs.

My yamaha rx-v473 wont turn on

disconnect all wires from behind unit, speakers, input, and then try to power it up ,
if problem persist then try to tighten screws on back panel of the unit,
may sound silly but if amp board does not have good ground connection it can do that , go in protect mode .

How do I reset my yamaha rx-v671 receiver?

If there is no apparent cause for the protection mode activating (such as shorted speakers, burning smell, blown fuses, lighting strike or mains power surges), reset the protection as follows and see what happens.

Connect power cord to mains and wait 5 seconds or so. While holding down "info" and "tone control" buttons, press "main zone" power button briefly and release, but keep "info" and "tone control" buttons pressed for at least 3 more seconds. The unit should power up. Assuming the reason for the protection has passed or been fixed, the unit can now be turned off and then back on with the "main zone" power button to restore normal operation mode.
If the protector activates again, the fault is still present and the unit needs to be repaired, ideally by a Yamaha authorised repairer.
There are dangerous voltages present in high power amps and a lot of grunt in terms of stored energy - best left to trained technicians.

Yamaha rx-v456 av receiver, shut down with optica cable

Does it work without PS3 attached?
When receiver turns off, it is usually due to badly connected/configured speakers. Try powering on the receiver without speakers.

Yamaha RX-V995 receiver turns on & then powers off 2 seconds late

I suggest you run self diag.  press [FM/AM] key + [Input mode] key and press the [power/standby] switch.

ps prt = power supply problem
dc prt = shorted output or leakly cap in channel
tmp prt means to hot on heatsink

you'll likely have to measure the resistances of the output FETs to find a short,
