Have Dell 1700n and when print it leaves toner lines on the paper. Pulled the drum out and it has toner lines on it. How do you clean the drum and keep it from happening?
Both the drum and the toner cartridge are brand new, pulled out fo the box just today and put in dell printer. The more I print the less it shows up, however now the streak is gone but now they are just dots closer to the right side of the page?
Thanks for your quick response.

if ur toner is empty (you can feel how light or heavy it is) replace toner if not replace ur drum. ( drum is photo sensitive dont leave out for more than 15 minutes and u will proboly see lines on the drum if it is defective.
A laser printer works by feeding a sheet of paper in from a hopper, negatively charging it by passing it over the corona wire. At the same time the drum is being scanned by the laser, which attracts toner to the drum before being put onto the paper. The paper is then passed through a heater (fuser unit) which bonds the toner to the paper.
If there's no toner being deposited on the page, even in a test print, then it could be that the laser isn't firing or that the drum isn't being charged properly by either the laser.
To test, start to print a page, half way through switch off the printer and look to see what is on the drum. If the drum has toner on it (should be a reverse image of what you are trying to print), then the toner isn't being deposited on the paper (corona wire).
Normally this is caused by the drum cartridge that fits under the toner. Replacing this drum cartridge will clear up the black marks on your print. Use this Dell Part# : A0373010 to order. After replacing the drum cartridge counter will have to be reset, Use the following steps.
1. Open the front door. 2. Press and hold the cancel button (x button) until all the lights flash in order. 3. Then close the front cover.
This will reset the drum counter.
There is nothing on the photoconductor unit to 'tell' the printer that it is new, you have to do this yourself, by following the photocinductor reset procedure (it's in the manual, or Dell 1700 RESETTING DRUM PAGE COUNTER 1) Leave the power on, insert toner cartridge, and leave door open 2) Press the cancel button and hold till the leds flash 3) Release cancel button and close toner cartridge door
double pressing the continue button twice , the printer will give a secondary error code: then check here (link below) : toner is low, with blinking lights = Replacing the Imaging Drum
Leave the printer on. Open the front and hold down the cancel button until all the lights are flashing in sequence. Close the front while still holding the cancel with the lights flashing and then release the cancel button. This should reset it.
Clean the optical area with a soft cotton piece of cloth and window cleaner. How does the cartrige looks like, if you see toner on the drum you may consider replacing the cleaning bladeand the drum if necessary. The cartridge was refilled?
