Anonymous Posted on Sep 21, 2010

This is my second mower. First one damaged after hitting a rock. My replacement mower will not discharge grass out of the side discharge. I have the mulching attachment in and the discharge chute as well. Also tried taking mulching attachment off and leaving discharge chute on but no luck! Please help. No service dealers nearby and Word can't help either.

Thanks but this is the same blame it was on my first more than that one worked okay. Call service center and they seem to think that the motor was wired incorrectly in is running in reverse... therefore causing the grass to shoot out of the left side of the mower. Worx Is now sending me a third replacement mower.

When going over deep grass there is a metal sound. It's like the blade is hitting against something. Is this a common problem with this model? How could I fix this issue?

Hi Andrew:
It is quite possible that the blade is bent or the metal "grass discharge guide" has been damaged.
If you have a pickup truck handy and you can put the mower facing outward on the tailgate, this procedure is easier.
- remove the spark plug lead to ensure that the mower cannot accidentally start.
- Push the handle down so that the mower is tilted back and the underside of the cutting deck is exposed.
- slowly rotate the blade and see where it contacts (or has been contacting any metal parts.
- remove and replace the blade if it has been bent. (They can be straightened but it is not recommended)
- Use 2 hammers (one as a "dolly") to straighten or repair any bent sheet metal.
- Replace the plug lead and go cut grass.
Cheers

How does the govener and carb linkage work on a Troy-Bilt 2005 800 Series (839) self propelled mower

Have you changed springs? Likely the correct components are there unless you have changed it. Does it run properly and at correct rpm when not in tall grass? Check for proper throttle adjustment first. also check for obstructions (packed grass for instance) under the deck that could be impeding the blade. Lastly, if you have the discharge blocked with a mulch plug, remove the plug. let the tall grass discharge. then run over it again and mulch it.

Troy Bilt XP self propelled mower

Normally an indication of poor air flow. Replace air filter. Clean outside of carb with carb cleaned to ensure choke is free to operate. Go real slow in tall grass, some mowers don't have the torque to do tall grass, only use 1/2 of the deck width and have side discharge open.

Not enough torque. Only use 1/2 width of deck on tall grass, go real slow, Ensure side discharge is open! Ensure blade is sharp. Replace spark plug once a year and clean replace air filter. check oil level 30woil.

Does it matter how the blades are lined up with each other on a Huskee LT4200?

The blades are belt driven, and once installed will do what they are designed to, spin and cut the grass. They wont hit each other, and the belt allows them to "pause" for a split second seperately from each other in case you hit a rock or stick or...
I wouldn't worry about it.

When it starts in makes a noise like medal is rubbing until it gets to full speed then it stops and goes back to normal. This take 3-5 seconds. This is a tore 20 inch ecycler, i have had it about a year.

The first thing I would do is to look under the deck and see if the blade is hitting up against what I call a ring wall. This ring wall is in almost all mowers wether electric or gas. I believe it,s designed to keep the cut grass from clumping up under the deck and not discharging out the shoot. Sometimes grass, twigs, rocks, etc. get caught behind this wall PUSHING the wall out towards the blade. The blade in turn starts hitting the wall making the sound you are hearing.
First removed any grass from behind the wall, second take a hammer and tap the wall back to were it should be. Rotate the blade buy hand to see if their is clearance, if so you should be ready to mow again. GOOD LUCK.

To mulch my grass clippings, do I have to use the side discharge or can I simply remove the bag and insert the rear plug?

Insert the rear plug if mulching is desired. The key to mulching is to mow the lawn frequently. You want to keep the mower deck height high enough to cut the grass and allow the mulching blades to work, but just low enough to actually cut the grass in a smooth uniform height. To low of a cut setting will clog the mower and create a mess. 2 times a week is a good frequency to start with.
