Programed fuel injection

I have an 1987 Acura Legend 2.5, the light on the dash panel has an error message (program fuel injection). When the car is cold, the light is off when it heats up, it comes on but sometime black smoke will come out of the muffler before it comes on. The book says it's the coolant temperture sensor?
Thanks....Louis diaz [email protected]

I have the same problem except that when the PGM-FI light comes on (once the car gets warm) its seems like the car down shifts and the revs. on the tach jump up about 200-300 rpm. One other forum states the first test you should do is to remove the vacum line from the EGR valve and apply vacum to it with the engine idling. It should stall the engine. If it doesn't the EGR valve may be defective or the EGR passageways are clogged up. That's the place to start---so they say...

The fuel pump relay is located underneath the dash, driver's side, up behind the metal panel (behind the plastic kick panel). It is NOT plugged into the fuse panel.

Is there an ALDL port on a legend ...to plug in a scan tool

There is a connector but it is not like the connector used in the newer 1996 OBD2 cars, your year uses OBD1, here is how you check for codes in this car.

Acura OBD1 Codes Retrieval
Acura vehicles 1986-95 obd1 code retrieval
There are a few different ways to retrieve the codes for "check engine light" for Acura vehicles. One method is to use a led light (sometimes 2 led lights) on the computer or controller box itself. If it has 2 led lights, the color is red and amber. The red is used for flashing the codes whereas the amber is used for adjustment. If you have only a single led light indicator, then that is used for flashing the code.
The controller box can be found by lifting the carpet of the passenger side front foot well or floorboard. You can see the led lights without removing the controller. On other models, you can find the controller under the driver or passenger front seat.
The second way to get the code is using a jumper wire on the diagnostic connector located on the kick panel at the front passenger side. You then watch the codes being flashed at the dash panel after you turn the key on. To read the code being flashed is easy. Example: Code 23 is 2 long flashes followed by 3 short flashes. A longer pause separates the next code that follows.
Here are Acura vehicles 1986-95 general codes:
Code 0 Electronic control unit (ecu)
Code 1 02 (oxygen) sensor
Code 3 and 5 map sensor
Code 4 Crank angle sensor
Code 6 Coolant temperature sensor
Code 7 Throttle angle sensor
Code 8 Crank angle sensor (TDC)
Code 9 Crank angle sensor (CLY)
Code 10 Intake air temperature sensor
Code 12 EGR system fault
Code 13 Atmospheric pressure sensor
Code 14 Electronic air control valve
Code 15 Ignition output signal
Code 16 Fuel injector fault
Code 17 Vehicle speed sensor
Code 21 Spool solenoid valve
Code 22 Valve timing oil pressure switch fault
Code 23 Knock sensor
Code 41 Oxygen sensor heater fault
Code 43 Fuel supply system

Where is the fuel pump located on a 1992 acura legend

To access either the fuel pump or the fuel gauge sending
unit, you remove the front trunk panel and the spare tire lid.
The access panel for those components is behind the
rear bulkhead.

Is there a fuel pump reset botton for a 95 acura legend where is it

THERE IS NO FUEL PUMP RESET BUTTON ON YOUR VEHICLE.PULLING YOUR BATTERY CABLE WILL DO NOTHING BUT MAKE YOU HAVE TO RE -INSTALL YOUR ANTI-THEFT RADIO CODE,TO AHVE A RADIO AGAIN.AND RESET YOUR CLOCKS. CPUBUGS IS TAKING A GUESS WITHOUT KNOWING ANYTHING ABOUT AN ACURA. IF YOU ARE HAVING FUEL ISSUES THE CAR HAS A PGMFI MAIN RELAY UP UNDER DRIVERS DASH AREA(BASICALLY WHAT WOULD BE AN OLD SCHOOL FUEL CUT RELAY)THAT TEND TO GO BAD ON THESE CARS.IT WILL BE A 2"X2"X3" GREY/BLACK SINGLE CONNECTOR BOX DIRECTLY UP UNDER DRIVERS DASH AREA.MOUNTED ON A METAL ONE BOLT BRACKET.THIS IS WHERE I WOULD START IF NO FUEL SITUATION. GOOD LUCK ,JOEL

1987 acura legend 2.5 litre

You have to remove the entire console then the panel the radio is screwed to. Pull the panel forward and unplug the connectors. there will be 2 screws holding the radio to the panel. If automatic put the lever on D or remove the knob on manuals to lift the console out.If you don't use the grenade you will at least have the parts to put it back together. You car doesn't have have that relay.
