How to get a new Microphone I purchased to work

Check colour coding off old unit plug too new unit plug sounds like acc wire is in wrong position for your model. Put stereos together an check loom from actual deck should have a plug on end make sure both same, if stereo has no plug from it an you plug loom into rear of unit then wrong stereo given an you will need service manual to correct wiring positions.

Make sure that you have a stereo plug on the microphone to be able to get both channels.

Just go and buy a microphone on its own, they are cheap maybe 10, it will plug in and work perfectly, you have over complicated yourself

Hi Cathy.. it sounds like you might be connected to the wrong jacks instead of the output that the headphones need.

Most high quality stereo headphones have a single 1/4" stereo plug that would readily plug into a 1/4" jack on the front of the stereo labeled "PHONES" or HEADPHONES".

Many lower quality "computer headphones" or headsets have two 1/8" plugs. One is often black or red and is for an included microphone that may be a boom type (shown below) connected to one of the speakers or an "in-line" type built into the cord itself. The headphone speakers in the headset get their signal from the other plug - which is usually green; but could be any color really. There should be 3 metal parts on the stereo headphone plug. The tip, the middle ring and the bottom ring. Many times the mic is mono (not stereo) and only has only a tip and a bottom ring on the plug. Computer Headphones or "Headset" with mic and phone plugs.

Your Yamaha stereo will probably NOT have 1/8" jacks to directly plug the headphone into. You can buy an adapter that you would plug your headphones into and then plug the adapter into the 1/4" jack on the stereo. One is pictured below:

You should have a wire harness pigtail that comes with your kenwood.
you can also purchase a harness adapter plug/pigtail at most audio auto stereo shops to fit your car make and model.
Be sure to save the packaging because the plastic bag has the color/codes for the harness. This harness is designed to plug right into the factory plug inside the dash just like the stock radios do.
All you need to do is splice the kenwood cables to the adapter plug pigtail you purchase for your car.

Sound and Recording jacks stop working on the DV6000 series due to the ribbon cable running under the power button. when the power button is pushed it bends the flex cable and over time it breaks the connection rendering the front jacks useless you can buy a new upper button panel for about 20 dollars on ebay

Let me make this clear to you that your Yamaha does not support Microphone but the trick is you can still do it. All you need is a stereo jack to a RCA connector cable.Check this out http://www.mediacollege.com/audio/connection/jack-stereo-rca-2.html It is easily available in the market. The stereo jack will fit into your microphone and the RCA to your Amplifier/Reciever. Plug the RCA into CD/Tape input but not in the Phono n do your thing. Let me know if this works,coz I'm really curious.

I'm just taking a stab in the dark here but bare with me on this, I got a lot of info stored in this old head so it takes a while.

If you look at the jack for the microphone, Does it have 2 sleaves and a pin or just 1 sleave and a pin. If it has 2 then you will need an adaptor (Normaly Stereo jack to XLR). If it has 1 sleave then your going to need a preamp.

You should go to logitecs website and search for the microphone drivers and install them. Thhis should solve your problem.
