Zebra striping is typically caused by a bad development clutch. Most likely, the developer and the development clutch will need to be replaced, but the 7313 is so old you may have trouble finding parts, or finding a technician to work on the machine.

My lanier is making dark copies

One of the most common reasons for a Lanier 5222 or 5227 to make dark copies is a problem with the drum unit or developer. Fortunately on those machines, the drum unit and developer are all self-contained in one easily-replacable unit, called the PCU (photoconductor).

If you don't have a new PCU handy, you can order one from the same company you get your toner from. The PCU should generally be replaced every 60,000 copies, but sometimes it may need to be replaced sooner (especially if you run a lot of dark copies or make a lot of copies of images) and it can often run longer than 60,000.

Replacing the PCU is easy -- it sits right next to the toner bottle, and all you have to do is slide the old PCU out and slide the new PCU in (once you remove all of the tape and other trappings from it). Instructions will be included in the box with the new PCU.

Please rate the effectiveness of this solution. Thank you!

How do i change to get copied document to appear

There are 3 settings for print quality on the front panel, good, better, and best. Also when it is set on copy you press the menu button and scroll thru the choices and you will find a contrast setting that you can scroll to a lighter setting.

I have a Lanier 7313 Copier which doesn't copy properly. Even with a new ink cartridge, the copies come out faded. Any ideas on what I can do?

This machine goes through developer pretty quickly. Sounds to me like it needs new developer and possibly a drum (and drum blade).

Want a B&W copy from colored sheet of paper w/o dark background.

It's never going to be perfect (unless the background is quite light in colour), because the copier basically "sees" the coloured background as "gray", and the darker the background the more "gray" it looks. Try setting the original type to "photo" mode, and then adjusting the exposure a little lighter/darker....that's all you can basically do.

Darkening the copies

Here's information from the HP manual:
Use the copy features
The HP All-in-One enables you to produce high-quality color and black-and-white copies on a variety of paper types, including transparencies. You can enlarge or reduce the size of an original to fit a specific paper size, adjust the darkness of the copy, and use special features to make high-quality copies of photos, including
borderless copies.

Press Copy repeatedly to display the appropriate menu. The following menus are available:
– Number of copies
– Reduce/Enlarge
– Copy Quality
– Copy Paper Size
– Paper Type
– Lighter/Darker
– Enhancements
– Set New Defaults
2. Press the until the appropriate setting appears.
3. Do one of the following:
– To change more settings, press Copy.
This selects the current setting and displays the next menu.
– To start the copy job, press Start Color or Start Black.

To save the current settings as defaults for future jobs
1. Make any needed changes to the settings in the Copy Menu.
2. Press Copy repeatedly until Set New Defaults appears.
3. Press until Yes appears and then press OK.

This should help you.

LANIER COPIER 7313

I guess by your fault description that there is a blank gap before the printing starts? The only way to cure this problem is to replace the registration clutch as it is turning on too late and not releasing the paper quick enough. Also check that the paper tray dial is displaying the correct paper size and position.

Thanks Jason
