Error message "01"

I have this lens on a Canon Digital Rebel. After successful use for several years, recently I have been getting a error message after the first shot.
If I remove and re-attach the lens it is reset for another shot or two. The camera works fine with other auto focus lens.

This could be as simple as cleaning the pins that are used to communicate between the lens and the camera. Use a pencil eraser on the lens pins and camera connectors.

SOURCE: Camera won't shoot with lens on Auto Focus

Talked to canon support, they suggested to send lense in for review/repair. They said it could be the motor, I think it was a gear problem based on the noises and jerkiness of the focusing action while in manual focus (manual focus gave out as well). Cost TBD - "would definately be more than $50. I shopped around and elected to buy a new lense rather than try to hassle with the repair, shipping, insurance, and the wait, etc. Besides, I have a deadline that I need the lense for, so repair at Canon really became a non-option. I think the cost would've been pretty much the same in the end as the new lense, since this wasn't one of the costlier of lenses to begin with.

This means that the communication with the Quantarey lens is not the right one.

You can try in cleaning the lens contacts and the camera contacts with a pencil eraser or a white erase (flip down the camera so no particles get inside the mirror box).

If still you are having problems, then that means the Quantarey lens is defective, and either needs to be service to be repaired, or you will need to get another zoom lens.

Err 01....communication between lens and camera is faulty. Please clean the lens contact...this is the error message...please say a solution..

The contacts are the little gold coloured metal squares that touch between your lens and the body. Clean them with isopropyl alcohol (moistened glasses wipes work well) and see how you go.

Camera flashes error code 01, shutter will take but picture is whited out. This happened after I changed lenses on the camera even after reattaching several times thinking it was not threaded properly.

Try to clean the lens contact both on the camera and the lens.
If it doesn't work, do a firmware update of your camera.
If it is still not resolved, contact Canon directly.

Hope this helps.

Err 99 could mean several different things, such as... Memory Card, Lens or Lens contacts....

Here's what you can try:
Remove the memory card an enable "shooting with out memory card" and see if you still get the error. If it works your memory card is bad. Try another lens if you can. Clean the lens contacts with a pencil eraser (be careful not to get eraser dust in the camera body or in the lens). Worst case scenario is, Err 99 could be related to the shutter failing which would mean a trip to Canon.

Thank you

Error code

Yes, Canon DSLRs are very sensitive to some NON-Canon lenses.
If firmware inside the camera detects foreign lens, it locks-up the camera.
Basically, Canon wants you to buy only Canon lenses.
