1.Dirty condenser coils where heat is transfered to the room air. 2.Frost build-up on back wall of freezer section which would indicate a defrost system problem.

Freezer freezes but frig wont cool amana with freezer on the bottom

I couldn't find a repairman so I pulled the big thing away from the wall, took off the bottom front plate and the bottom rear plate and unplugged the big beast. Then using a refrigerator brush and a vacuum I carefully cleaned all the dustballs from the coils on the bottom. Then plugged it back in and in about 3 hours it was cooling normally again on a "4" setting.

Amana refrigerator not cold

The fan that should circulate air between the two compartments has failed. These usually have 'sleeve' bearings which can become sticky and fail to start up without help. Go to the Sears/parts website and enter your Amana model number; if you are lucky, they will have a line drawing of your model which can aid in finding how to access the fan:
Sears Parts Dept.
They have info for thousands of non-Sears items and most can be ordered via that website as well.

Freezer on the bottom

Because there are many models like the model number listed above your post I will need you to confirm the model number on the refrigerator. The photo below shows were to look for the model number. Some like yours have a simple defrost system and some have circuit control boards. Everyone has these problems with every brand, Your model is Amana and also a Maytag brand. Let me know so I can help you get this going thanks, Sea Breeze

Ice cream and bread don't freeze, food in frig DOES freeze

Not fixed but I do not want to spend MORE money to find out what's wrong with this AMANA piece of ****. Apparently, from research on the net, the compressor or motor is not strong enough in this unit to actually do the job...but if anyone has any suggestions, I'm happy to hear them...

Frig not cold but freezer is ice maker not making much ice either

Is your fan blowing in the freezer? Frost on the back wall of the freezer usually indicates a defrost problem... defrost themostate, heaters, take back panel off and check evap for frost build up and if your fan in working.
