The Error Message Code is E 4 54040990. I've just started troubleshooting this. I will report back anything I find.

    1) Tried disk that I previously recorded on.

    2) Tried new clean disk.

    3) Unplugged unit and rebooted

    Nothing has worked yet...

I am having the same problem and am using dvd+r disks! Now what?

  • Anonymous Aug 09, 2008

Initial solution posted below does not help me: I, too, got this error
message starting about a week after purchasing the item. I use new
DVD+RW discs and get the same message. Disc brand doesn't matter.
Company's e-mail technical service center has been totally
unresponsive. I've waited about seven months trying to get it
    resolved... What now?

I have recorded on disk and then wanted to add another recording and it would tell me I can not record on that disk.

I have recorded on disk and then try to edit by adding title and after it had recorded the movie it tells me I can't record to disk when it tries to write the title.

I have recorded movie, edited title and then when I try to finalize it I get the message that I can not record to disk.

I have called them for help and wasted about 20 minutes on the phone only to be told that it was probably just a glitch.

Magnavox has lost a very loyal customer.

In many devices, DVD-R and/or DVD-RW discs do not work. You must use DVD+R or DVD+RW discs. Good luck!

Record errors

If your dvd player only supports dvd+r discs then that is the only way it will record. It will only record once onto the dvd-rw and, since it doesn't support the re-writables, it won't be able to use this function. This is the most likely reason for the first error. The second problem is a little confusing. Is it when you are trying to record on dvd-rs or dvd-rws that it says it can't record? I hope this post was helpful (for the first error, anyway). Good luck! I hope everything works out! Sincerely, Der Strom

Won't format new DVD-RW disks

i did everyting today to fix this. bought new dvds, name brands different, tried finding codes, called the number. trust me. try this. clean it. thats All i did. cleaned it with a dvd cd cleaning disc, the one with two little brushes on it, nothing special, ran it until i heard the beep, popped my dvd in, they all worked. everyone, im still recording. i ran it about four times. now, if you tried to burn a dvd, and got the error, throw that dvd away. because i tried about ten dvds. after i fixed it, THOSE dvds were no longer usable. dont know why. hope this works.

Make sure that the discs are right for the unit. As this unit is now absolete you may have trouble finding discs. For one time write, try to find Verbatim Movie Discs 1x-8x. Try Microcenter. Use DVD RW from Maxell 1x-2x. I believe they are still available at walmart.

Sylvania dvr90vf dvd recorder

Unfortunately without a firmware upgrade the only disks you can use are DVD-R or DVD-RW. The tricky part is that you can ONLY USE 2X speed. Per my conversation with Sylvania there is a firmware update that will allow you to use up to 8x disks, but they are charging $17.00 for it.

Dvd/vcr recorder/magnavox

my solution may be to never buy this companies products again as I have been having the same issue and since the machine is not been used much and since the disks worked before it really ticks me off. The suggestion noted to my issue recently really didn't seem to be valid due my above statted time period of no problems then sudden isses tends to show me poor quality of equipment by manufaturer.

Problem dubbing from VHS to DVD

Try different brands of disk, most dvd-r recorder are disk sensitive, buy only one disk per brand, find the brand compatible to your recorder by just inserting the disk and wait for confirmation that it is ready for recording session. I have tried around five brands, sony and maxell as well as verbatim are good dvd-r disk.
