Canon PIXMA MP460 All-In-One InkJet Printer Logo
Anonymous Posted on Sep 21, 2010

I've upgraded to Windows 7 and I've noticed that since then my mp460 canon printer no longer is able to scan....only able to print. I've downloaded and installed the latest driver mp460111winea23 with no luck.

What does mean "no longer is able to scan". If you try to scan something with your software, what appear? some error? or nothing? And which software are you using to scanning? Maybe that software is not compatible with Windows 7.

Thanks for the reply. The scanning functionality seems disabled...it seems to go through the motions on the printer display but the last button press would normally start it up and send to pc....I'm getting nothing after the scan button press. No errors at all either. Do I need some scanning software other then just the drivers for the printer?

The solution was that I was missing the mp460 scanning software. Merely the printer driver installation wasn't enough.

Please do upgrade your mp460 printer drivers also

Testimonial: "Thanks this is what I needed to know I was missing the scanner software ...I didn't realize the printer drivers didn't include this."

Sujimanfsu - normally not, but maybe its software problem. Try something basic like MS Paint you can find it in Start menu in your windows. Try scan some picture in that software.
But I think it will call your drivers, so maybe it will same.
If not help, un-install ALL drivers for your printer/scanner and install it again. Install ALL Drivers NEW from site. Printer driver, Scanner Driver..etc

MP460 prints and copies but does not scan

Use Apple's "Image Capture" program, included with OS X. Also updating to the latest drivers may solve your problem, at least according to Canon. I haven't tested the latest drivers yet.

Won't scan

I had this problem, but I have Windows Vista. Epson finally addressed this problem. If you have Vista - and you cannot scan with the Canon MP460...just go to Epson's website, and go to troubleshooting. There you will find an upgrade that is necessary - it's the 'Service Pack 1'. Download it to your computer...and you will be able to scan immediately.

I have a Canon MP620 Wireless all in one printer - it is printing and copying fine, but whenever I try to scan, it aborts due to scanner driver. It was working perfectly until I installed Windows 7...

If you upgraded from Windows Vista to Windows 7 on the same computer, did you uninstall the MP620 drivers first? If not, the old driver files can be causing the problem.

To correct, go to this link, type "windows 7" in the search box in the center of the screen, and click on the Search button. Now click on the link "ERROR: Cannot communicate with printer after upgrading to Windows 7". You will have a step-by-step procedure for uninstalling the old files and downloading/installing the Windows 7 drivers (printer and scanner).
