Button Problems I need some help with my calculator. Recently my right side buttons ( VARS, TAN, ), 9, 6, and 3) have been messing up. Whenever I press those buttons, the negative (-) symbol always comes up. Whenever I press 2ND and then one of the buttons, answer (Ans) comes up. Does anybody know how to fix this? Things I've tried: -Changed batteries -Cleared RAM -Cleared all memory Thanks for any help.

Happened to me be4, except all my buttons didn' t work. I just did what people do in movies. throw it aroun, step on it, bang it against walls, desks , ect. Then my teacher took it away. The banging cleared all my ram. It was weird, but it started working.

I think the circuit board moved, and i hit it back into alignment.

Why is my ti84 giving me wrong answers when I use trig functions?

Your right you should be in degree mode. However, my guess is you are somehow entering in cot wrong in your calc. Recall cot = 1/tan! In your graphing calculator enter: 35(1/tan(61) = 19.4.
Hope this helped!

I cannot find the Catalog button on my TI-82 calculator. Thanks in advance!

There isn't one. There are, however, several buttons that bring up various sub-catalogs, such as MATH, MATRIX, PRGM, STAT, and VARS.

How do you calculate sec174?

SEC, CSC & COT are the INVERSE of COS, SIN & TAN and are usually require hitting the "2nd F" or "Func" key of the calc to make:

SIN button work as COSEC,

COS button work as SEC

TAN button work as COT

Formulas are below:

sec x = 1
cos x

cosec x = 1
sin x

cot x = 1 = cos x
tan x sin x

Good luck!

Cot(x) = -0.6

Let's start with a little background.

The cot(x) is also known as the cotangent(x) and it equals 1/tan(x) which equals cos(x)/sin(x). I'm showing these formulas because your calculator may not have a cot button but it will probably have buttons for tan, cos, and sin.

Your calculator may also have buttons for tan-1, cos-1 and sin-1. These are the inverse functions for tan, cos, and sin. If you enter a number and then push the tan-1 button, the result is the angle whose tangent is the entered number. For example, it you enter 1 and push the tan-1 button the answer will be 45 deg because tan (45 deg) = 1.

Now let's look at the problem, cot(x) = -0.6.
The first thing we need to know is do you want the answer in degrees or radians? Your calculator will have both modes. The default mode when you first turn it on is probably degrees. If this problem is in radians you will need to change the mode of your calculator over to radians before we start.

If cot(x) = -0.6, then tan(x) = 1/-0.6 from the formula I showed in the background section.

This means tan(x) = -1.6666666...

Now we just enter -1.66666667 and hit the tan-1 button to get the answer.

If we're operating in radians the answer is -1.0307 radians.
If we're operating in degrees the answer is -59.036 deg.

I hope this helps you out.

When I press a key in the column with vars, tan, ), 9, 6, 3, or (-), I only see a dash. All other keys work fine.

it could be that one of the application cause this or maybe the ram is full, if none of this help it could be an Hardware Failure

Whenever i put in sin or cos or tan on my calculator the wrong answer comes up, how do i fix this?

Most likely you do have the calculator in radians (or if you are working in radians, you have it in degrees). Press the mode button, move cruser down to "radians degrees" highlight degrees. and press "2nd quit". things sould be better!

I can not find the "Inv" button...

There is an inverse button below the math button, but if you hit second and the tan it should give you the inverse of tan. Hope this is what you wanted
