I just bought a used 29 LTD Classic that was supposed to be a 10 on working condition. When I hooked it up to my antenna (1.2 match) and powered it up all was quiet untill I turned the RF gain up to3/4 to full where I can here a lot of static. When I did a radio check test, I can only recieve when the gain is set this high and the other set is within a couple of blocks. Transmit seems ok. When listening to the two sets side by side My little emergency radio (Midland hand held) is recieving all kinds of chatter while I only get static from the Cobra 29. I observed the sw meter and see the needle swing but don't here anything but static. The cobra was made in May 2004 . Is there anything I can do to possibly fix this?

Yes I agree a car will drown out receive without a noise filter. Turn off engine when listening. *Radio Shack* has a "Noise filter kit" for ignition noise to radio power. AnL helps little but may need the Noise kit filter. Handheld works on batteries thats why it receives better and its away from alternator power wires.

I have had a Cobre 29 LTD Classic, a 29 NW LTD Classic and now a 29 LTD Chrome. It seems that the first two died because of possible bad antenna connections. I was able to calibrate the radios and adjust...

I see two possible problems. First, with a magnetic antenna it is difficult to get the proper ground for the antenna. Make sure the magnetic base is clean as well as where you place it. Second, try running your power lead DIRECTLY to the battery and not using the cigarette lighter. Hope it helps.

I just purchased a cobra 29 LTD Classic mobile CB radio.Pro tuned high performance Mosfet Final I have a palomar 450 LD mosfet linear.will i have any problems?

Not if the power output from radio to amp is set correct and the jumper for coax is correct length and there is absolute perfect match between them and the antenna used. Afterthought: also the amp better be connected to something big enough to power it.

How to match a antenna to a cobra 29 LTD Classic

You are actually tuning the antenna to the vehicle it is mounted on here are some very good resources. http://www.rightchannelradios.com/pages/cb-antenna-tuning-guide-pv-c0-61.htmlhttp://www.wilsonantenna.com/swr.php

Be aware that if your radio has been modified it may produce a dirt signal that an swr meter may read as reflected power. In this case it may be more accurate set with a unmodified radio also if your radio is setup for a linear it may have a deadkey to low for the swr meter to calibrate correctly.
Hope this was of help.

Have cobra classic 29 nightwatch. have good antenna, good coax, sri's under 1 but I can't hear allot of answers back over the road without someone closer telling me what what said

Try making sure the RF gain is up all the way. Make sure all connections are good and tight, use the best antenna you can get. I love the 102 inch steele whip myself, just depends on what vehicle it would be on. conditions here the last few months have been pretty good for 10 meter ham and other ham bands, pretty bad for cb because so much skip/

Cobra 29 LTD Classic not transmitting or receiving

As I understand from a tech friend of mine, most truck beds are not grounded well enough. Perhaps you could borrow/purchase a magnet mount antenna and locate it on the roof, for testing. Then you would have it narrowed down to the location.
