Sony DAV-DZ810 Theater System Logo
Posted on Sep 20, 2010

I recently purchased the DAV-DZ810 system. The surround sound is working and I get sound on all the speakers when I play DVD. But when I switch it to TV to watch cable I do not get sound from all the speakers, only from the front speakers eventhough I selected the option to have all speakers on.

set the downmix to stereo on the dvd, or set to pro logic, or buy some single to 2 or 3 way rca leads.uts

When you play a DVD, the sound source on DVD would be 5.1 encoded. Means that all the speakers (5 speakers and sub-woofer) would get the sound. But when you receive the sound from TV it would be a Mono sound (Unless you have satellite dish receiver which would be Stereo) So you'll only get sound in front Center speaker. If the sound source of TV signal is Stereo then you'll get sound in Front Right and Front Left speakers. Some receivers have capability of 5.1 channel also. Basically it is the source of sound which your DVD players receives and encodes. Hope this helps.

Our Sony c 770 no longer plays DVDs or Cds but it still works as a receiver. Can we connect a DVD player to it and have it come thru the 5.1 speaker system?

Hi,
Yes, tis unit has 2 video inputs at rear so you can connect any other dvd player sound (analog or digital) to get 5.1 channel surround sound from DAV-C770 speakers.
Click Sony Support to download user manual copy of DAV-C770 that has more details about connection setup.
Hope this info will help you.
Thanks.

Hi,I can play a DVD disc on the system and get sound from the surround sound speakers but I can't get a picture on the tv,Sony Trinitron. The connetions are from the DAV S500:(DVD only)red and white cable...

Hi,
First try with yellow video output of DAV-S500 in yellow video TV input to get its picture. (yellow output means composite video out)
Green-Blue-Red video output is component output that will be turn on when you switch the unit into Progressive picture mode, that option would be available in Menu of DAV-S500
Hope this info will help you.
Thanks.

Sony Model DAV ? SB 500W Home Theatre System

Please check at rear of TV for Digital Optical IN port as home theater should have optical out port at rear. If you got any optical in port in TV, just connect optical wire between TV and home theater.

2nd option is check Line Out pins at rear of home theater system, if found, hook red-white RCA cable there and put it to same input in TV where you hooked Video (composite or component) cable.

Let me know the results to help you more.

Can't get the surround sound to play the rear speakers and small front speaker

Sounds like it's just in 2 channel stereo mode, only 2 speakers working out of 5 and a sub, look for a selector switch for switching to 5.1 surround, as far as the no video problem try replacing the cable for the video connection.

Surround sound hookup question?

It looks like all you'll need to do is hook up audio out from DirecTV to audio in on the surround sound system. Sony has an interesting hookup recommendation guide on the product support site:

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-home.pl?mdl=DAVC700&LOC=3

That should give you the connection options. The short answer, though, is to connect the best audio out from DirecTV to an audio in on the surround sound and then choose that option in the surround sound system when you want to watch TV.

Component Video Connection

what you have done is you are sending a component video signal from your system to your tv and the sound i assume comes through the 5.1 surrond speakers. The DVD's you play the sound would naturally come from the 5.1 surround speakers, unless your instruct the dvd player to send the sound to the tv in which case will only be played as stereo. you will need inputs on your dav system to take sound from your tv outputs or digital box by way of red and white phono leads or a digital/optical input if you have them; so as to play the sound from cable tv or sattelite tv through your 5.1 surround speakers.

No sound through TV

In case you connect the System to a TV set using the Scart Connector, only the video signal is terminated, Audio is actually not wired inside the SB100 Scart connector.
Sound will only be amplified through the system itself (through the satelites and Sub) it can not be utilized as a stand-alone DVD player.
So after connecting your surround speakers the problem will be solved
