Hp psc1610 all-in-one after market ink cartridge problem

My printer will not accept the after-market ink cartridges that I bought. I get a variety of messages that involve re-alignment, removing the cartridge etc, but the printer either double prints or stops working and asks for another alignment. I realise from research on the Internet that HP has built this into the cartridge software to insure you buy their ink. But I have already bought a box of spectrum ink cartridges that won't work. Unless there is a simple fix, I would rather get another SMALL printer that will accept after market inks. Can you recommend one?

  • misterbarrym May 19, 2008

The original Hp cartridge and the Spectrum replacement both have the same numbers
The black cartridge (94) is C8765W

    The Tricolor (95) C8766WN

What about my original question. Is there a small printer that will accept after market ink cartridges

black inkjet print cartridge - HP 94
tri-color inkjet print cartridge - HP 95
tri-color inkjet print cartridge - HP 97
photo inkjet print cartridge - HP 99

A better idea would be to reuse the cardridges and fill them yourself.

Need to know more about the inks you have bought to get you a model where they would work.

Hello misterbarrym

What you say is quite correct. Most of the major companies like Canon, HP and Epson resort to these tactics these days. It is always safer to buy genuine inks rather that refilled or generic cartridges.

If you wish to buy a lower end printer that accepts generic inks, you can try something from the Lexmark stable or the older Canon BJC inkjet series (although they are a bit slow compared to more recent standards). Or you can try refurbished laser printers from HP

Or you can go in for the Kodak printers. I believe they are coming out with cheaper inks akin to generic inks. See HERE for a review article..

Hope that helps!

As for the box of spectrum cartridges, you can try offloading it on eBay. However, they are supposed to work ok without problems on the Canon brand of printers. See HERE..

Like I said, you can try something from the Lexmark stable or the older Canon BJC inkjet series

What is the specific ink cartridge, there should be a number or something indicating this. Just let me know and I would be happy to find a printer that would work with them

What color and black and white cartridges should I use for a HP Photosmart 1115 printer?

It looks like your Photosmart 1115 printer uses an HP45 black ink cartridge and an HP78 tri-color cartridge. Some HP printers will accept re-manufactured ink carts, while other HP printers will not...just so you know. I've always bought genuine HP ink cartridges on eBay to save $$$.

I have a Lexmark Pinnacle Pro 901 printer and its set up to print using black ink only, but it keeps telling to replace color cartridges and it won't let me print at all, how do I print using blac

The printer would need all cartridges to have sufficient ink levels to continue printing - that's to prevent damaging the printhead. Every time a cartridge is replaced, all colors are primed simultaneously thus the need for all cartridges to have ink.

To save on your ink investment, try printing in draft mode and by making sure that your printing preferences is set to print using black ink only.

My Hp officejet 6110 printer does not want to accept a re-filled ink cartridge. Why? Can this problem be fixed? How? It only wants to accept new cartridges and I know that the stores want to sell new...

Who refilled the ink-cartridge?
If you did it, then you need to "reset" the electronics inside the ink-cartridge, to indicate to the printer that it is a "new" cartridge, and not the same "empty" cartridge.

When you say "does not accept", EXACTLY what error-message do you get?

Printer will not accept new cartridges. Printer is new and wants original cartridges to initialize ink system. Original cartridges are not availible. Tryed reset but did not work.

HP printers will not accept refilled cartridges. Are you trying to replace your empty cartridges with refilled cartridges? There is a computer chip in the ink cartridge that tells the printer when it is out of ink. If you try and refill it yourself, the printer will not recognize that it has been refilled without replacing the computer chip in it.

I think your printer is telling you that it needs HP brand cartridges that are original and not refilled cartridges. There is no way to "reset" an hp printer to get it to use an off brand or refilled cartridge that has not had the chip changed.

You can pick up a good refilled cartridge at a professional company who knows about changing the chip for less then a third of the regular price of an HP cartridge in a department store. However, HP does not want you to use refilled cartridges and should something go wrong with your computer and they find out that you were using them they will void your warranty on your printer.

If you are not trying to replace HP brand cartridges with refilled or off brand versions, I suggest your return them to where you bought them and exchange them. They may be defective cartridges.

Hope this helps?

I HAVE AN HP PHOTOSMART C6280 ALL-IN-ONE PRINTER BROUGHT OVER FROM THE U.S.A. 3 OF THE INK CARTRIDGES ARE EMPTY AND I HAVE REPLACED THEM, BUT NOT WITH HP INK. THE MESSAGE ON THE SCREEN IS SAYING THE INK...

Hi,
As the printer was bought in the US the printer is meant to use the #02 cartridges.

When you decided to replace the empty cartridges with refilled ones…the place you took them to be refilled more than likely decided to replace the little chip with a local flavour, which attempt to mimic original HP cartridges #363 (or what ever the number of those cartridges is where you are now). Hence now they are rejected by your printer.

But because the printer is only designed to use #02 cartridges it will reject every other cartridge/chip that do not have an #02 programmed into them….

You could try to call HP and explain them your situation and see if they can help you reset your printer to accept a different cartridge number …

Cheers.
