MC 9700 not recognizing compact flash files

Mmm I suggest that you try another flash card, I have encountered several that do not work properly, and there appear to be several scam copies with nothing in.

Can you format the card with your computer and then try it in the machine? Is the flash card exactly the same type that you have previously used with your machine? Sometimes, not all cards are compatible.

If nothing else, delete the files using the machine routine, and then see if it will format.

FAT error fixed! Formatted using my Canon SLR camera.
I would like to credit whomever it was that suggested using the Camera to check if the card was working for the thought. I had spent many hours attempting to format and reformat my cards using Windows 10 64bit Pro machine. They would work perfectly fine on the computer but would fail on my MC 10001 every time. The MC also failed when trying to format on the sewing machine. Then I stumbled across this thread. I can only guess that the age of technology has become incompatible with the way my computer formats the card. Once I formatted using the camera, everything magically works. Of course, I needed to reformat using the MC machine; but, that was a breeze. I hope this helps someone!

It appears that the 9700 works with Type II CFD's.

I think that the 2 Gb cards are ULTRA II's which likely will not work with your 9700. The 512's are getting harder to find as well...

The solution was sooo easy.....one of my online embroidery groups suggested to put the card in my Janome and let the machine format it. It took about a minute and did not tell me what it was doing..and It worked! It put two folders on my card, Emb5 and ord#5, and I was to copy the jef files into the Emb5 folder, which I did and bingo! my Janome 9500 read the card and produced a screen with my jef files in it. I am a happy camper....I don't know if this works with all Janome machines but it did with mine.

I have the same machine and if you watch the dvd included with the machine it says to use a MC no bigger than 1 gb. I use a 512mb and it works fine. Your computer may not have a MC port so you will have to purchase a memory card reader which you can purchase on ebay or at Fry's for around 10 dollars. All the files need to be saved on the MC card as a SEW or JEF file. When you go to your machine touch the emb. key then the disc key and you should see your files. You may also need to turn the page; sometimes it save it on different pages.

Judy, you mention memory card so I am assuming you are refering to a Compact Flash card that you insert into a PCMCIA adaptor.
The card must be smaller than 512 MB, any larger and the machine won't acknowledge it. You need a type 1 card and compact flash card adaptor, a compact card reader/writer unless you have an integral multi card reader integrated into your computer. The card format must be FAT, the older computer file format. Insert the card into the adaptor and insert into your machine, wait for the warning screen to clear, if the machine asks "format card" hit yes on the machines display screen . If there is no offer to format the card use the SET icon on the display screen, you need embroidery mode, then arrow forward till you reach the Format options, select ATA card, hit yes, it will warn you card contents will be erased, hit OK. Just say yes to any new questions. Wait for the warning screen to dissapear, when it does you can eject the card adaptor, now insert the card alone into your digital media card reader which should be inserted via a USB connection to your computer, locate the drive your computer has allocated to the card and open it. You will see two types of folders, ORD which are for combined decorative stitches you might want to save, those you put together in the machine, and EMB folders, those are where the machine expects to find designs,11 of each.
Only use them to transfer designs between the machine and computer or vice versa, don't use them to store all your designs in, you will over tax your machines on board processor.
To pop designs into them, open your design CD, select the design you want to stitch, copy it, now open the card in your computer, open the first folder, number 5, I think, and Paste into that folder. Use only JEF formats, your machine wont read any other format.
Don't transfer designs into the machines built in folders, you will severely constrict the machines memory to the point where it wont be able to access enough memory to stitch your designs. Use the compact card as an external drive, which it is anyway, the machine will still stitch the design as if it were in its own memory. To access the card in the machine, select embroidery mode, then the card icon and finally if needed the file icon.

Firstly, format your compact flash card on your embroidery machine. This is presuming you have embroidery files in your jef format your machine reads on your computer. Place your compact flash in the compact flash card reader writer connected to your computer, open the compact flash card in your computer, open the file emb5. Now you can simply copy and paste a design from your computer to your flash card. It works for me. Goodluck.
