I have a Polaroid 40" TLX-04011C. The screen resolution is fine except for about a 4" area along the right side from top to bottom. This area is lighter than the rest of the screen. The picture is still able to be seen but considerably lighter in contrast. There is also a small black line in the upper left corner that curves from the top of the screen to the left side. There is a small black line like this along the right side of the screen also. It looks like a seal has come loose behind the screen. I do not know what wither of these problems are or if they can be repaired. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I have not repaired this particular model. But I have repaired another polaroid flat screen TV. I can tell you for sure, the biggest problem here are bad capacitors in the signal board. You may find 15 or 20 bad caps. On the power supply there may be a two or three caps that need replaced as they will be weak but not real bad. Yes,the majority of the caps will be found in the signal board. You will need a good capacitor checker to locate these. It will require patience and skill to remove and replace these caps. I cannot say enough of bad capacitors in this TV. Find a TV tech to help you! Thanks for asking, show me a few hands of appreciation. This answer is your best effort for repair!

This does not sound like a power board problem at all. This is either a defect in your LCD panel or in the main video board.

Honestly though, by your description it sounds like there's a small crack in your screen. Maybe I'm just not understanding your description, but small black lines and a change in brightness on one side of the screen usually indicates some sort of damage to the panel. It most likely will be better to live with this problem.

Alternatively, your panel may have shifted inside the casing, but I can't imagine that happening by itself, with the casing sustaining some damage.

Either way, if you open it up and find bad caps on the power board (you might find some even though that's not causing your problem) you should replace them as a preventative measure, but you should also look at the panel itself and make sure it hasn't been damaged in some way.

Anyways, good luck, and all the best.

Your problem is in the signal board. There are some capacitors in the signal board that are bad. You describe exactly what bad capacitors can do to a flat panel LCD TV. Once, again you will need a capacitor checker to find these. A weak or bad cap will leave lighter shades as well as black bars on the screen. Please be careful as not to tear the traces on the PCB when removing a cap. Be careful and have lots of patience!

I have a Polaroid 40" HD TV TLX-04011C while

There may be an issue with "cold" solder joints on the power supply board, or there may be a failing component on that board as well.

Some things to look for also are bad solder joints particularly on the fuses of the inverter board or boards depending on production run. Those are going to be rectangular items marked with "8A" on them near where the multiwire connector attaches to that board under the plastic cover. As well as any bulging electrolytic capacitors. Since there usually more than one in parallel if one shows as bad- replace them all
A can of cold shot help locate the specific area or component of the 24 volt section of the power supply that is the issue.

You have bad capacitors in the signal board. This is the number one cause in almost any brand of TV. You will need an ESR meter to,locate and replace those capacitors. Thanks for asking and show a few hands of support!
