Seagate FreeAgent Pro - 500GB, 7200 RPM, USB 2.0, eSATA, External 500 GB Hard Drive Logo

Hi, My Seagate Freeagent 500GB Go HD (Hard Drive) has switched to Raw format. I want to convert it back to NTFS so I can retrieve my data. The drive shows up in My Computer or Computer, but I can not access it. Have looked around the Internet for free HD recovery programs, I could not use them because I had to pay or buy them. Also because they were demos too. I have 3 years of photographs, Documents, programs, and 3 Years of videos on the Seagate Freeagent 500GB Go HD (Hard Drive). I do not want to lose or reformat my HD (Hard Drive) without knowing that my data will be ok.

Need restore my RAW file system back to NTFS without losing any hard drive files?

There are two options for you to get your drive stuffs back right now:
1). Do not format this RAW file system external hard drive temporarily and plunge it to your PC. And then, choose and apply RAW external hard drive data recovery software to scan this drive and find your preferred drive files back as many as possible.
2). Directly consult some professional data recovery services from some data recovery companies or agencies.
In the future, remember to save copies of everything important on at least two devices in case of any similar data loss issues.

After I format my hardisk for several times and the file system still showing RAW. how to make it ntfs.

Install the drive on a working computer and access through disc management. that will allow you to initialize the drive and format it ntfs. Goto my computer right click select manage select drive management. This works on XP if you have other OS than search for disc management for your OS.

My new seagate go flex hard drive is being read by mac but I cannot do any modification, which includes data transfer!!

Most likely the hard drive is formated as NTFS and you will need to download a 3rd party app in order to write to an NTFS file system in Mac OS X, such as Tuxera NTFS or NTFS For Mac OS X
NTFS For Mac OS X http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/26288/ntfs-for-mac-os-x
Tuxera NTFS For Mac OS X http://www.tuxera.com/products/tuxera-ntfs-for-mac/

How do I format my new Seagate 500GB FreeAgent GoFlex Hard Drive to Fat32 for use with Xbox 360? I am using Windows 7 and when I open up the formatting options only NTFS and exFAT are available.

Windows Disk Management can only format a hard drive less than 32 GB to FAT32. If you want to format your 500GB drive to Fat 32, you need to use third party program like AOMEI Partition Assistant. http://www.disk-partition.com/free-partition-manager.html

Formatting my Freeagent 1tb external hard drive for my Mac?

the problem is that your western digital operates using the NTFS (New Technology File System) which is the standard file system of Windows. Apple macs is not interopable with native NTFS therefore you need to install a read-write NTFS file-system driver on your mac.

an excellent free mac NTFS driver can be found here-
http://mac.softpedia.com/get/System-Utilities/NTFS-3G.shtml

download and install the software then restart your mac.

My Freeagent external hard drive doesn't show up on My Computer

Your Mac would have formatted the Seagate drive as HFS+ (journaled) format. If you have access to a Mac, copy your data off the Seagate to any Mac, then use your PC to reformat the Seagate drive in FAT32 format. Macs recognize FAT32 format, and can store data in it, but can't create the format. The Mac holding your data can store it on the Seagate in the FAT32 format, and you can then copy the files to your PC. Hope this helps.

Seagate external hard drive

In this case the MOST effective way is to try some data recovery program to see if it can help rescue your data on your Seagate external.

FreeAgent Drive cannot be Modified?

The problem with the compatibility between your external drive and your mac is that freeagent drives are formatted in NTFS and the Mac uses FAT32. Mac's can read from NTFS drives but cannot write to them. I'm afraid that the only solution is to re-format the drive in FAT32 format if you want to be able to write to it.
