Sony HDV Z1U C:31:23 will not load tape cartridge

Tape may be jammed. Try to move tape with pencil eraser
like with the old cassettes.

The cassette is not being detected when the tray is landing. If the head is not spinning but you are getting the cassette ejected then it is a malfunction of the loading mechanism. Even if the tape end detection optocouplers are defective the fault could be so.If you can check this out then try and test the voltage before and after the cassette loads. there should be a change if not replace. check on the loading mechanism too. when ever to get this kind of message just try to fwd the tape mannualy, or just make sure tht when u are rew. the tape dont rewind tht completely....

HDR-HC1 Sony camcorder- reinsert the cassette error message

Bill,

The problem is with the S-reel. Take the tape out, remove the battery, and give it a slight bump. This usually fixes the issue for a couple of weeks. I haven't heard of any permenant fixes. I took my cam into circuit city (before they closed) twice for the same issue. Very frustrating when you don't know what the issue is.

Error 20 is "Cassette compartment motor lock" this is meaning the cassette loading mech is not accepting the tape It could be miss-aligned in it's position or one of the sensors is defective or the motor is bad

Loading tapes

I had a similar issue where the tape bay would not lock in and engage the motor mechanism to load the tape. I removed the battery from the unit and let it stand for approximately a minute then reinserted the battery. The tape drawer closed first without a tape then reopened with no issue. I then inserted a new tape with no issue. I guess it needed a hard reboot.

Cassette loading error 31:23

Take the battery out and turn selection switch to camera and then turn it off. Put the battery back in and its working again.
if that doesn't work try
Try smacking the side of the camera relatively hard with the palm of your hand. Eject the tape and reinsert. You may need to do this a couple of times.

Error message 31:22 reinsert cassette tape

reel sensor is the problem of your camera it is a common problem to that model,maybe the pinch roller is loosen to the post cause of the lock of that is been broke..that roller is that one that pulling the tape...only a technician can put it back to the mechanism and replace that lock...in sony service they replace the whole assembly and cost a lots...i suggest find other service center for fixing it...hope that roller is not lost in your camera...

This can be caused by several problems including the transmission gear in the tape mechanism not engaging properly or a defective clutch in the take-up spool and can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.
