Just stopped working there was a pot of boiling water on the stove below it and the oven was on but we have done that several times before with no trouble

Happened to my 2005 Advantium120 twice, both times after extended cooking/simmering on the cooktop (17" below). Solution was to leave unplugged for a good 48 hours (to dry out?) then plug in again and all is good. GE says to either raise the microwave 4" or stop boiling pasta on the stove, neither a good solution. Good luck!

You may need to replace the keypad. I found there was moisture causing the problem when we boiled water on the right side of our stove which is under the keypad. I let the microwave dry out for several days and now only use the left side of stove when we boil water and have not had the problem.

Re: GE JES1384SF Mine quit working so I unplugged it and put a pot of boiling water in it and let the steam dissolve whatever was gumming things up. I used an electric hot plate to keep the water boiling. I let it boil for a couple of hours. I left the door 2/3 open. The microwave is working again. It is four years old and has been used every day, many times a day before it stopped working.

I think a bad connection in a lucar styl plug is the problem.
Check all of the connectors that come from the switch/control pannel and the magnetron's transformer.
Make certain that it is not still charged up at a lot of voltage in the capacitor is lethal!!!!

mcdevito75 here, Sounds like the timer mechanism which is most likely transistor board is wet or shorted, see any appliance repair shop in your area for help.Or Check the owners manual for repairs.

condensation [steam] is getting into microwave advise: move microwave or move cooker..it does`nt sound good..!

Your microwave turning on by itself is a "self preservation feature" of the GE Profile Advantium and maybe some other models. Read the manual, When your over the range oven gets warm enough, for whatever reason the venting fan comes on until a satisfactory oven temperature is reached. You are not permitted to shut the vent fan off. Also it seems a temperature near room temp must be achieved before it shuts the fan motor off, it is very annoying. We had to return our Advantium because of fan noise. I configured the ovens vent fan to the recirculate direction because we do not have a vent duct that exits the house over our range. When the vent fan acting as the ovens cooling fan automatically turned on we would have to leave the house to hear each other talk. Too bad we really liked the oven other than that major problem. Same issue here. LMVM1935 about 2 months past warranty keypad stopped working. Apparently they need to add something in the manual about not boiling water on the range over which the microwave is installed (gee who would have thought that there would be steam over the cooktop and we should seal the membrane?).

The silver traces on the keypad got corroded and no longer conduct. After complaining to Sears (NO HELP) and LG (EVEN MORE INEPT) and running on 30sec button for about 6 months, I found a replacement keypad $30 w/ shipping and didn't break anything taking the door apart, thanks to the parts list link above. Thanks Rickzilla!

Life's Good, Their Keypad SUCKS, or apparently we are the only people that boil water anymore.

Sounds like a mis-aligined, or defective door switch. I would suspect defective.

Hopefully the hood / vent fan was always on when boiling on the stove top.

Otherwise moisture can get into and damage the keypad or control circuit board.

That may be the problem.

If this is a convection model, it may have a bad thermistor (not to be confused with a thermostat).
