I have this monitor its works but when i tried to open a porgram or i switch off the monitor and put it back on it would flash and goes blank i have to keep pressing the power button on the monitor a couple of times before it come s on
If you still have this monitor type, you are obviously no longer under warranty and need some help, not "smart alek" or "return" it advise.
The issue is with the power board that feeds the inverters which in turn power the CCFL bulbs. This monitor incorporates the power board and inverter board into one unit. If you have ruled out loose wires at the bulbs, which makes no sense if they are coming on for a bit anyway, then check this:
On the power board you will see some "mosfet" switches that are glued to an aluminum heat sink. They are a black squarish chip soldered to the board and using an aluminum heat sink to dissipate heat. One in particular is screwed to the heat sink and this is your culprit. Take the screw out and carefully bend the chip away from the heat sink. Clean all the old thermal grease off both items and replace it with actual computer thermal paste. In my case I use "Arctic Silver". Place a small bead of paste diagonally from the lower corner of the switch to the upper opposite corner then carefully bend back in place and replace the screw. Give the paste a day to fully cure then reassemble the monitor. That is it! I have repaired 6 as of this posting and all are still working with no image loss. Keep in mind, this is only a repair suggestion for an issue of the loss of backlight. Power light stays on, image can be seen with a flashlight shined on the screen and if turning monitor off and back on the screen looks normal for a few seconds.
Now those of you that want the "why" behind all this: Mosfet's are used to turn on or off a device like an on / off switch. Power to one side, device connected to another side and a trigger to connect the two together. On this monitor design voltage goes to the mosfet and waits for the trigger (hey I want to see something on the screen message) to close the switch thereby passing power on to the next device which is the inverter circuit. Power hits the inverter circuit board and it swings into action inverting power from AC to DC to run the CCFL backlight bulbs. This monitor has two inverters each running two bulbs for a total of 4 bulbs. This light travels through fiber optic style plastic that illuminates the lcd image from behind (thus the name backlight) and viola!! Image.
I got in a hurry and forgot the rest of the "why". LOL. The mosfet gets very hot doing it's job so it needs a good conductive contact with the aluminum heat sink to shed the heat. The paste used by the factory just did not cut it and replacing it with some rated for computer CPU's does the trick.
Bit me in the behind. I just repaired another one and this fix did not work. So... I suppose try it before you junk it. Otherwise there are some Japanese sources that still sell the power / inverter board for around $40.00 USD including shipping. Good luck !!

To all that have this problem with the HP W1907 Call HP and demand an RMA, It is a hardware problem. A defect in the monitor.
Screw you people it's been years on this site that this problem has been listed and no one has come up with even a REASON why it happens to everyone so someone could attempt to fix it who was good with electronics or w/e.
Reason found. It's the backlight bulbs - or the power supply to said bulbs. I took my w1907 apart (after an hour of careful prying - it's like an Ipod) and discovered four tiny, little, burnt out fluorescent bulbs. The approximate cost to order new ones is $10 or so apiece, the power supply $75. I decided to go with a new (bigger!) monitor for $150, but at least I fully satisfied my curiosity about how my monitor was put together.

actually an extremely dim image. Plugging cable into known good monitor
showed video signal was fine. New drivers downloaded, no help. Powering monitor off and back on would often be required.
The solution: I returned the monitor to the store and exchanged it for a new W1907. It works!

I am having the exact same problem, specifically when exited a full screen game mode. Have to press power button several times before screen will stay on. Also another problem, goes blank after the screensavers been on awhile (I use my own photos) and when I get it back on, all my pictures are black and white. Tried changing resolution and refresh rate, nothing works.
Am having the same problem, had my new monitor for about 2 weeks now. Screen goes blank, especially when exiting a full screen game. have to press power button many times before it'll stay on. Also another problem I've encountered - I use My Photos screensaver. Screen goes blank after screensaver is on a while, when I move the mouse, it comes back but all my pics are black and white. I've turned off the hibernate and sleep modes and have tried to refresh and change resolution. Nothing works.
My boyfriend and I bought 2 hp computers with the w1907 monitors. When exiting games, receving an email notification, or being interupted by an update, my screen goes blank as well. This is happening to both new monitors. I have to push the on andoff button onthe monitor up to ten times before it begins to work again. It is frustrating.
Is replacement the only solution? I'm having the same problem with my hp w1907. It's good to know I'm not the only one experiencing this.

Same problem - after beeing on a while (between 15 mins - 2hrs) screen flickers and dims a bit, then a while later it goes blank (blue power light still on). Â Menu is not visible when pressed. Â Removing power for a while (and probably letting it cool down) restores the display when turned on - but I'm sure it is a bit dimmer than normal. Â
Does it with DVI & VGA and from different video cards - so almost certainly a hardware problem with the monitor.
Does anyone know how to get the back of these. Â I got the 3 screws and the stand off, but then what? Â It all seems to be clipped together.Â
Same problem would like to know how to open up the screen, anyone had any luck
