Anytime external AC is being applied, the unit passes that AC input through to the output, independent of inverter/charger status. If external AC power is available but the unit is not charging (i.e. the Charge light is lit, but the batteries are not charging up as they should), then there is likely a problem with the AC sensing circuit card inside the unit, with a 1/4 amp fuse and/or the AC transformer the most probably culprits. Without external AC, the inverter will function all the way down to 10V, but then will shut off, so as long as your batteries have not been totally depleted,the unit will still be able to produce 110 AC after a brief charge cycle, but it won't for long.
