My 2nd phone has started a couple of weeks ago, dispalying a constant stream of odd, unreadable characters. It also is impossible to dial a number and get the correct number. When I try to answer on this phone, it disconnects. The main phone/base seem to work fine. When I tried putting the phone that is acting up on the main base, it still displayed the weird symbols, so I think it's the phone, not the base. We just purchased this set in Dec., but probably don't have the receipts. Is it possible to replace just the phone?
I have changed my phones in the bases and it
fixed this problem, you also need to make sure it is charged up well. I have problems with the volume even on # 4. Don't you?
Another user (thank yoiu but I'm sorry I forgot his/her name) had the answer. It was ihe instructions but I missed it. Needed to set the 2nd handset into the main base for 20 seconds so that it could align itself.

How to breakdown the age of your Whirlpool Appliance via the Serial Number:
1st Alphabetical character: The Manufacturing Division Code
2nd Alphabetical Character: The Year Manufactured (See table I provided Below)
1st and 2nd numerical characters (digits): The week out of the year that the product was manufactured.
3rd-7th numerical characters (digits): Order # this specific product was during that week out of the year.
**FOR EXAMPLE: the serial number of a Kenmore Dryer is as follows: MB1402320 which indicates that by looking at the charts; it was built in the 14th week of the year 1992.
Yours is as follows:
MA2408599- so by looking at the charts and tables- I located the year in correspondence with the 2nd letter in the serial number which is A.
The year for the Code Letter "A" is 1991.
By looking at the 1st and 2nd numbers in this serial number... which is 24- (MA2408599): I can then determine that this specific product was made the 24th week of the year 1991.
If you google the 24th week of the year 1991- I was able to determine that your specific product was manufactured and made sometime during the week of June 10th-June 16th which is the 24th week of the year in 1991.
So again- Your product was manufactured in June of 1991- Making your specific Serial Number/Product approximately 31 Years old!
It seems the problem with display as well as to the charging unit. Display problem can be repaired only br replacing the display. And for your set, its not worth to get the display replaced. You can get the handset to your near service man to check whether the power charging unit works well.
Hello,
I do not know what to say. Since you seem to have a problem seeing the decimal mark, it may reduce the guessing if you use the scientific display format, which is always one digit, decimal mark, additional decimal digits, exponent. With this format the decimal mark is always at the second position (if there is no - sign) and at the third (if ther is a - sign). But if you are reluctant to use it there is no solution.
There might be a problem with the LCD of the phone, you need to have it checked with a technician. I'm not sure if the phone got damaged due to direct heat of sun light. The phone's LCD is also sensitive and can only take mild heat. Might as well take it to a local techinician and have them evaluate the phone's LCD for you.
hi Glenda, unplug the unit from it's power source, take out all the paper and leave it for about a hourplug it back in and try to run through setup again, it sounds like to me that your memory is either full, or got a "powersurge", like thunderstorm, power outage, etc if it starts acting up right off the bat then push the stop/reset button, you can either hold it down and count to ten, or push it quickly a couple of times, it should reset one of these ways, if it does remember which way in the event the power goes out again, clear the memory, and it should be alright, please let me know if this solved your problem, may god bless and happy 4th
This can be either the display itself or the display driver IC havng problems. Something as simple as poor solder connections may cause this as well. Without seeing hte unit, it is difficult to say what the real problem is. If you can solder, try resoldering all of the voltage regulator ICs in the unit. These look like transistors and will be marked 7805 or 7812. If the voltages drift too low because of bad connections, the ICs can get "confused" and not work properly.
