Tape mechanism problems are quite complicated but they can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be diagnosed by a qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I'm semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

I have an Elura 90. The cassette door opens but

When ejecting the tape you must hold the eject switch down for a full second. There are two stages to the eject process just as there are with the insertion of a videocassette. Hold the button in position long enough to hear the motor mechanism start.

Mini DV damaged

You have to make sure that when the tape was put back in the cassette, that it maintained it's side to head integrity, in other words, that it did not flip so at a certain point, the back of the tape is running against the drum and head in the machine. If that is the case, then you should insert the tape and rewind it and fast forward the tape 2 or three times and then let the tape rest for a day fully rewound or fully fast forwarded. This should iron out the small wrinkles, but unfortunately, the big creases in the tape will cause a loss of information so the picture will fail. You should transfer the tape immediately to your computer and burn a DVD as your tape has a very short life span now,

E04 Error Message

Here's what i found. I was able to clear the message by opening and closing and ejecting the cassette. I also had to play with the battery at the same time. Keeping the cassette door open and then pulling out the battery. After is did this a couple of times i got the message to clear. I too haven't used my camcorder for some time and now that the error message has cleared the camcorder tells me that i need to clean the heads. Hope this helps. Below is the message i found that pointed me toward ejecting the cassette. Good Luck, i'm off to buy a tape head cleaning cassette. An error indication (E03 or E04) appears. - (E03 or E04 UNIT IN SAFEGUARD MODE REMOVE AND REATTACH BATTERY) This massage a malfunction of some kind has occurred. In this case the camcorder's functions become unusable. - Eject the cassette once and re-insert it, then check if the indication clears. When it does, you can resume using the camcorder. If the indication remains, consult your nearest JVC dealer or service center

My ZR30mc video recorder will not eject cassette

Take the side panel off to see whether the tape is damaged and will not retreat into the cassette ( this will prevent ejection ). Remove old damaged cassette and insert new one. If the unit chews the new cassette camera should go in for VTR service.
