Installing standard third-party optical drives in VAIO PCV-650 case

My Sony VAIO PCV-650 has a dead DVD drive. I am sufficiently hardware-competent to replace the drive with a new one, except for one thing:

The case front panel has nonstandard half-height openings in front of its removable-media drive bays, and there doesn't seem to be an obvious way to remove the panels which block the other half of the opening..

Do those panels interfere with the ability of generic third-party optical drives to open and close? Do I *have* to get a Sony-branded replacement drive? What do I do to get a working DVD drive into that horrible case?

Hi there. I've worked for Sony VAIO and can assure you that the only solution is to get a Sony Branded Spare parts. The parts of Sony VAIO are very specific. As of now I see that the only solution for you is to either contact Sony Service Center or go for an external DVD Drive.

Sony DRX-820UL-T; DVD-RW USB2.0 (by Vaio)

It is possible that the Sony DRX-820UL-T DVD-RW drive is no longer supported by the manufacturer and that the necessary drivers are no longer available. This is often the case for older devices that have not been manufactured or supported for a long time.
If you are unable to find the drivers on the Sony or Vaio websites, you can try the following options:
  1. Check online forums or communities: There may be online forums or communities where users have shared their own drivers or solutions for this particular DVD-RW drive.
  2. Check third-party driver websites: There are several websites that offer drivers for a wide range of devices, including older ones. You can try searching for the drivers on these websites to see if they are available.
  3. Check with a technical support team: You may be able to get help from a technical support team or a professional repair service that specializes in older or discontinued devices. They may be able to provide you with the necessary drivers or help you find a solution to the problem.
It is worth noting that using third-party drivers or unsupported software can be risky and may cause issues with your device or system. It is recommended to exercise caution and consider the potential risks before proceeding.

If no hdd fit an hdd and then place an operating system on it.

Sony vaio dvd stuck

If your optical drive is the open kind, just get a pin, look for little hole in the hardware and push it in, this will take out the stuck DVD. If the optical drive is the one that swallows the disk, then you need to take out the hardware.

Replacement for Sony Vaio optical disk

Your computer is an older pentium 4 PC. As such it uses ATA / IDE - EIDE drives. These days stores sell SATA drives but IDE drives are still VERY COMMON. You can find tons of them on eBay or your local computer store (for much more than eBay). The original drive has a 24x CD reader, 8x CD-r writer and a 4x DVD reader. It does not write DVDs. You can buy any ATA/IDE drive you like and now you can probably afford a DVD burner too.

Replacing the powersupply on a Sony VAIO PCV-RS720G desktop

    Hi There,

From the looks of things that model will take a standard ATX power supply which would be available from and computer part dealer and ebay etc, get yourself a nice 400w replacement try and get a small form factor one if you can as it will be a tight sqeeze inside the case.

when replacing it you will have to open the case up (get an anti static wristband if you can, and work on a table rather that a carpeted floor) un hook all the connectors the old power supply (one in each drive and there should be 2 in the motherboard) you may have to pull the Dvd rom out slightly to get the new supply in, unscrew the 4 case screws holding the power supply from the back of the case. lift it out then put in the new one, screw it in using the case screws and connect up the internal power cables to the drives motherboard and new graphics card, close the case, plug in and voila

If you get stuck just ask and we will help
