Hello

Your cat5 will make up 4 pair. org/org/wht being one pair and so on.

So as long as you keep them in pairs you will be ok.

Meaning. Pair one from cat5 org and org/wht to wall plate wht and brn.This would be one complete pair.So the wall plate colors are different from cat5 but as long as you stay in pairs and go from left to right on your conections you should be ok.

You would need a 4 - 8 port router... with a wire going to each Jack... and these would plug into the Router ports, The router plugs into the Modem. You have to put the Ethernet plugs on each end of the Cat5 cable. Then you setup your network. But if you have a wireless router you simply need each PC WiFi enabled, IE: A wireless card in each PC, that way you do NOT need Cat5. Then each PC, simply connects to the Router/Modem.

I need to wire a network cable into a wall plate purchased at home depot. the plug is not rj45 but a block with 8 screws and different colored wires. the problem is the colors don't match cat5e wire.any...

I have tried this, and my suggestion is to go back and get the proper wall jack. How much are headaches worth to you? If they are worth more than the wall plate, just **** it up and get the correct one.

Wiring on a RCA RJ-45 wall jack

the RJ45 wallplate is not meant for ethernet. It's an 8P8C connector for a phone. Will it work as a network jack? Maybe. I wouldn't use it, but if you really want to try, wire it thusly:

1 Blue --- Orange/White
2 Orange --- Orange
3 Black --- Green/White
4 Red --- Blue
5 Green --- Blue/White
6 Yellow --- Green
7 Brown --- Brown/White
8 White --- Brown

I'd still recommend a CAT5 wallplate with a CAT5 jack.

Dont know how to hook up cat5e cable to a leviton cat5e jack

Those two jacks are telephone jacks (RJ-11) not ethernet (RJ-45). The jack marked telephone is for a phone, and the jack with a rectangle symbol is for the telephone line into the wall.

You need to buy an ethernet PCI card - without one you can not use a cat5e line (which has an RJ45 connection).

Cat 5 wiring issue

I know this is an old thread, but for the sake of helping someone else in the future, I just got off the phone with the Phillips Help Desk and this is the way they told me to wire it up the RJ-11 & RJ-45 combo jack I bought (PH60037):

RJ-45
Jack colors - CAT 5e
Blue - white/orange
Orange - Orange
Black - white/green
Red - Blue
Green - white/blue
Yellow - Green
Brown - white/brown
White - brown
RJ-11
White - white/green
Black - white/orange
Red - blue
Green - blue/white
Yellow - orange
Blue - green

He said it was the standard configuration used by the phone companies for some time.
Phillips Help Desk # for phones/PCs (800-233-8412)
Hope that helps someone else down the road.

I am using ON-Q RJ45 jacks on the other end of the CAT5e cable and my tester showed pairs 1&2 and 3&4 reversed when using the above diagram. I had to swap Orange&Orange/white pair with the green&green/white pair to correct the problem Thus:
1 White/green Blue
2 Green Orange
3 White/orange Black
4 Blue Red
5 White/Blue Green
6 Orange Yellow
7 White/Brown Brown
8 Brown White
