Hi
I have a M4097D, scans fine from the flatbed but can't scan with the ADF, I get error 20094 Peripheral cover open, or ADF cover open.
Could anybody tell me where the sensor is located and/or any other information, test or solution for it?

Sincerely

This may help:
I don't have a Fujitsu, but a M/F is a M/F, all fairly similar.
On my SAMSUNG CLX-3170FN, I lifted the ADF cover, which is the smaller cover on top of the ADF, found a small black wedge-shape plastic arm which protrudes through the center, upwards.
As this peripheral ie, envelope / postcard / non-standard stationery cover is lowered, it pushes this arm to activate a limit switch, hidden under plastic of ADF.
If the cover is looseor not properly closed, the gearing and roller-feed mechanism can't push paper through, so causing an error.
The reason it refuses to scan is probably a cover not pushed down, or the sensor limit-switch misbehaving.
Renewing the limit should be fairly simple, if similar to mine.
1: Raise the peripheral cover.
2: Loosen 4 screws holding peripheral base-plate.
3: Switch is visible.

There is a tiny spec on the scanner glass. Cleaning it will make the line go away.

Your scanner will never pass the initial boot "test" sequence without getting sensor and light readings. Cut the binding and scan it through the adf and save a few weeks work.

SOURCE: Xerox 510 will not scan from ADF

If it is new, and not assuming there is a hardware problem with the scanner (some fault), might be a software problem. If the scanned image from the flabed is OK the drivers would be installed properly. You do not say which software you are using but when you have a "Professional" documentscanner and intend to use it for "production" scanning you need proper software also, To scan, to mix documents, rearrange pages, auto remove blank pages, deskew, produce small PDFs even when scanning color and so on. Look at PixEdit - it will do the job for you.

When I use the printer to scan via the document feeder, I get two parrallel lines down the right hand side of each page of the pdf. I've cleaned the glass and everything else but still get the lines....

Open the scanner cover and you will see two glasses. One long and thin and the other larger than an A4 sheet of paper. The long thin glass is used to scan thru the adf and the larger glass is for flatbed scanning.
As your lines are from the adf scanning, you will see tippex on the long thin glass. just clean it off and all will be well. Clean the flatbed glass as well while you are doing the job on the adf glass.

The scanner is reporting an E2 error code when it draws a document in. Any ideas? Re-cycling the power clears error but comes back when I scan. thankyou in advance

Hi,

This error message means ADF front side scanning optical alarm (lower optical unit ADF) which indicates ADF (front) lamp intensity check. Please follow the steps provided below:

1. Is the upper glass (white sheet guide)of the reading section dirty?

Open the ADF, and clean the sheet guide (white part) and the glass.
# When operating the scanner, the ADF’s inside glass becomes very hot. Take serious caution as the heat can cause burns. Before you clean the inside of the scanner, turn off its power and unplug the AC adapter from the outlet and wait (at least three minutes) until it gets cold.Be careful not to pinch your fingers when the ADF cover is being closed.
Note: Cleaning should be done approximately every 10,000 sheets scanned, though it may vary depending on types of
documents scanned. More frequent cleaning is necessary when the following types of documents are scanned:
- Smooth surface document such as coated paper
- Documents printed on almost entire surface
- Documents processed with chemical materials such as carbonless paper
- Paper with a high calcium content
- Pages with pencil lead
- Document where toner is not fused sufficiently.

If the above does not help, then the issue is caused by any of the followings for which you may have to contact the Fujitsu Expert/Engineer.

1. Lower Optical unit ADF may be dirty.
2. Lower lamp may not be functioning properly.
3. The connecting cables might be damaged.
4. The connectors are not connected properly.

Hope the above information is helpful.

ADF paper jam, when there is none

If you are receiving an Error Code 103 or a Paper Jam error, but there are no pages in the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder), follow the steps below:
  1. Close the scanning application (such as PaperPort)
  2. Turn off the scanner and the computer
  3. If you have a combination ADF with a Flatbed scanner, unplug the ADF cable from the base of the scanner
  4. Plug the ADF cable back in
  5. Turn on the scanner power
  6. Turn on the computer
  7. Try scanning again
For a Paper Jam or Error Code 103, make sure that the ADF cable in the rear is connected to the scanner base. Check the flatbed to make sure that it is clear. A page incorrectly placed on the flatbed may interfere with a page feeding through the ADF.

If your scanner stops scanning due to a paper jam in the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF), a warning dialog box appears after a few moments.

To clear a paper jam:
  1. Open the Automatic Document Feeder cover.
  2. Remove the jammed paper and close the cover.
If you are receiving a paper jam error, or if the scanner is running continuously, check to make sure the paper sensor arm is not stuck down.
  1. Open the Automatic Document Feeder cover.
  2. Look for the small black plastic arm
  3. When you press on this arm, it should move freely up and down
  4. If the arm is stuck down, please contact Technical Support for troubleshooting options
  5. Close the ADF cover.

How do I scan a bunch of originals from the tray and get 1 file for each page?

Loading originals to scan
Use these instructions to load originals into your device for scanning. For the best quality
scans, use the flatbed scanner. See Selecting media for the automatic document feeder
(ADF) for guidelines on choosing original documents for scanning.
Loading originals onto the flatbed scanner
1. Make sure that the automatic document feeder (ADF) input tray is free of media.
2. Lift the flatbed scanner lid.
3. Place the original document face-down on the flatbed scanner with the top, left corner of
the document at the lower-right corner of the glass.
4. Gently close the lid.
5. The document is ready to be scanned.
CAUTION To prevent damaging the device, do not allow the scanner lid to fall onto the flatbed scanner
surface. Always close the scanner lid when the device is not in use.
Loading originals into the automatic document feeder (ADF)
input tray
Note The ADF capacity is up to 50 sheets of 75 g/m2 (20 lb) media (depending on the thickness of
the media), or fewer sheets if the stack fills the ADF.
The minimum size for media in the ADF is 127 by 127 mm (5 by 5 inches). For smaller sizes
use the flatbed scanner. The maximum size for media in the ADF is 215.9 by 381 mm (8.5 by
15 inches).
1. Make sure that the flatbed scanner contains no media.
2. Close the flatbed scanner cover and put the top end of the stack of originals into the ADF
input tray, with the media stack face-up and the first page to be scanned on top of the
stack.
3. Slide the stack into the ADF input tray until it does not move any farther.

Scanning does not stops

please check all sensor arms in the document feeder. The sensor arm in the middle just below the separation pad is called 'paper end sensor'. If this sensor arm is blocked or broken the scanner don't stop the feeder.
Another possibility is a driver error.
