I've lost my set up cd and although the printer and copyer work I cannot scan a document onto the computer.

They may have the drivers for your printer.
Although if I am not mistaken if you disconnect your printer from the computer and the printer is on you should be able to scan documents and print them. All without the need for a computer.
That would be to copy a document.
On the other hard maybe you want to scan to a file onto your computer, yes I think that is what you want to do. Yes you are quite correct, you will need to install the drivers for the printer.

Try and use the USB connection if you are having problem with wireless, it some-times gives problems.

I have this problem most times that I upgrade OSX. I remove the printer in system preferences, download the latest drivers from HP and then re-install. It's working better than ever now with Snow Leopard.

Try updating the drivers. Take this link to Hp and either enter model number and then operating system or let Hp detect your hardware and select drivers.

If you haven't done so, install the cd that comes with the HP Officejet package. Once correctly install, you should go to "All Programs" and locate "HP Solution Center" Click on HP Solution Center, click "Settings", click "Scan settings and preferences", choose either "scan document" or "scan picture" If word document then under File type: locate "PDF(*.pdf) If document is a picture then under File type: locate "JPEG image(*.jpg), click ok. Step 2 Choose between Scan Picture or Scan Document, click accept Step 3 your file is locate under "My scan" Hope that helps
