I have a ipod classic click wheel 20gb that won't charge up, it will not do anything at all. My PC doesn't recognise it either, I have tried charging it via plug for hours but it has not made any difference. Any help greatly appreciated as it has all my music on there and as my laptop also died I need to transfer all my music to my new pc

SOURCE: charging ipod 4gb

Yes, the iPod will show that it is charging on its screen. Disconnecting without ejecting can cause data loss of whatever is stored on the iPod
Ejecting is when you remove the iPod from the desktop by dragging its icon to the trash or clicking on the down arrow next to the iPods name from within iTunes.

If you use the library computer, usually a Windows based OS, you'll need to click on the iPod icon from the task tray on the lower right of the screen. You can right click to select the remove option

SOURCE: my pc does not see my ipod when it is connected

Reset your iPod :

  1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
  2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

SOURCE: Getting ipod to record music

Symptom When opening iTunes for Windows you may see the following error message:
"iTunes might be unable to launch or communicate with iPod or iPhone. For help repairing your operating system, click More Information." Products affected

  • iTunes for Windows
Solution This symptom may be caused by an issue with the digital signing of Windows XP drivers. First, update to the latest version of iTunes. You can download the updater here or in iTunes, choose Help > Check for Updates.
If the issue continues with the latest version of iTunes, try following the steps below to reregister several .dll files, which may resolve this issue.
  1. Quit iTunes.
  2. Highlight all of the following 10 lines of text that begin with regsvr32 and then choose Copy from the Edit menu of your web browser: regsvr32 /s softpub.dll
    regsvr32 /s wintrust.dll
    regsvr32 /s dssenh.dll
    regsvr32 /s rsaenh.dll
    regsvr32 /s gpkcsp.dll
    regsvr32 /s sccbase.dll
    regsvr32 /s slbcsp.dll
    regsvr32 /s mssip32.dll
    regsvr32 /s cryptdlg.dll
    regsvr32 /s initpki.dll

  3. Open the Notepad program by choosing
Start > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad
  4. In Notepad, choose Paste from the Edit menu. Note: make sure that the text that appears in Notepad is the same as what is shown above.
  5. From the File menu, choose Save As.
  6. In the File name field type appleitunes.bat and save the file to the Desktop.
  7. Close Notepad and locate the appleitunes.bat file. It should appear on the Desktop with the icon shown below: 305999_1.jpg
  8. Double-click the file and you will see a black window appear on the screen for about a minute. Wait until the window automatically disappears and proceed to the next step.
  9. The appleitunes.bat file can be deleted at this time.
  10. Open iTunes.
Additional Information Because some malware may unregister the .dll files, make sure you have the most recent updates to your anti-virus software and then do a full scan of your files.

You may just need to leave it plugged in for a few hours and see if it comes to life. It is usually the case.

I am sure you will be fine.. give it a try

Ipod 20gb is frozen on disconnect screen

What you have to do is connect the IPod to your computer and open up ITunes. Click on your IPod icon then click on RESTORE IPod. If the IPod does not connect or keep connection then hold down Menu and the center (click) button for about 5-15 seconds til it reboots. If it doesn't respond at first keep trying. My wife had one doing that for over a year and could not Restore it on her PC til she gave it to me and after about an hour on my Mac it finally Restored and it's been good since then. If you can try it on a Mac, you might loose all your music , but it will be Alive again for free. Good Luck and be Patient.

Ipod problem

joannfer, have you tried the 5-R's

http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/classic/

i usually use this with some wierd issues on an OLD iPod, and it helps, although i experience another issue after a month of 2, but it helps.

service centers and other techs says its not practical to get it fixed since it is too old and may cost more when repaired. so try the 5-R's first, just a friendly thought.

Ipod just pauses

This can be caused by the audio jack, if it doesn't sit tight anymore, the headphone becomes disconnected for small periods of time causing the iPod to detect the headphone as unplugged, hence it will pause. If you're out of warranty you can send it to a third party iPod Repair Service.
