How do I enable the bidirectional communications for a Lexmark printer series x5650es

When you first loaded the print driver there should have been a box to check to enable bidirectional communication. Most Lexmark printers require this to work properly

Go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes > right click on the Lexmark 5400 Series print object > Properties > Lexmark 5400 Series Properties window pops up, click on Ports tab > place a check mark in Enable bidirectional support by clicking in the box beside it. Hit Apply and click Ok to save the settings. Try to print. If problem persists, disconnect the printer usb cable from computer, uninstall the software completely by clicking on Windows logo Start menu > All Programs > Lexmark 5400 Series folder > Tools > Uninstall. Restart pc. To reinstalI, I recommend you use the software you can download from the Lexmark website. Just click on this link: http://bit.ly/cgn74X. Download and install the software. I have tried to set up this wireless printer on my laptop (windows vista basic). I run through installation and get message - installation complete and the green indicator light is fully on. When I try and print I get message Printer cannot communicate with computer - please turn on 'Enable Biodirectional Communication' in printer properties. I go to control panel/printer/propertie/ports/ and I see Enable Biodirectional communication - the box is grayed out and I cannot enable it. Any suggestions?

go to your "printers and faxes" screen. In windows 7, it may just be called printers. You should see your printer listed there. right click on the printer and choose properties. At the top of the next window, there will be several tabs. click on ports. you should see a box that says Enable Bidirectional Support. put a check in that box. If that does not solve it, then contact lexmark about a Windows 7 driver.

Bi-directional operation is a facility of the BIOS port you might use. it usually refers to a parallel port which can be set in the bios as uni directional or bidirectional so in the bios under PERIPHERAL DEVICES you would set to bi-directional.. so it is not something you can set in the printer settings. when it connects to the port the printer tests to see if it can use bidirectional transfers or not. If it can't it just means its a bit less efficient so will take long to transfer data. A similar error message might be issued for a network/wifi connection if a FIREWALL prevented communications. Or if you had used an OLD driver meant for a different older parallel printer. your printer is too new and should be wifi connected. You may have used a wifi ad-hoc pc-printer direct connection which could be causing the issue. preferred method is always printer-router-pc non ad-hoc using tcp/ip ports. so check your firewall settings http://support.lexmark.com/index?page=content&id=SO3908&locale=en&userlocale=EN_US

I came up with a work around solution and for $9.99 I'll tell youo how I did it......

In this case click on start and then go to Control Panel on control panel click on printers and then right click on the lexmark default printer which has a check mark on it and click on properties.......... On the properties window click on "Port" Tab and then check the option which says enable bidirectional support..................

Make sure that the "Enable Bidirectional Support" checkbox is checked: Go to "Control Panel"->Printers->Right click on the print Object->Properties under "Ports" tab, enable this check box if not already enabled. If you using vista make sure you do this from an "Admin" account, you may also need to select the "Run as Administrator" option after you right click on the "PrintObject".

To enable bi directional printing:
Open Printers and Faxes in control Panel
Right Click on the Printers Icon
Select PROPERTIES
In the Properties dialog box select the PORTS tab
Near the bottom there is a check box to enable Bi-directional printing
Make sure it is checked
Click OK to exit the dialog box

If you have an XP OS, click START Menu then click "Printers and Faxes". A window will open with a list of printers installed in your computer. Right Click the printer icon for your 8300 printer then select properties. Go to "Ports" Tab, you will see the check box for "Enable bidirectional support".
