After restoring with a windows xp disc and downloaded the drivers off the site the wireless and wired internet does not work. I downloaded the drivers off the gateway website for the computer but it just says radio disabled. When I click to enable it gives me a windows saying the radio is still disabled. I have bought a wireless adapter and installed that. And still nothing.

Over 2 year old and awakened,
got driver from what site.??
99% of all sites are wrong.
only gateway driver work, or from microsoft PnP
but microsoft ended XP support
and IE6 to 8 is now banned on the internet, IE11 run but never on XP,
who;s xp disk.?
gateways real disk matching THIS PC.
homemade
off torrent,
where?
why not skip wifi and use Ethernet.
if Ethernet works then now plug and play might work
but you did it backwards.
ethernet is always first, for PnP to work out the garage.

is the wifi card even in this PC, most this old it was an options
if the card is missing we have no brainer issue. right.?sure.
and the 2 antennas not fell off, bingo
and the bios for wifi not disabled.
or the card even bad this old,COMMON.
then the gateway driver works, but wait, some PC (most)
had 4 cards use there and the driver must match the card and XP
what tech does
is this
we run hwinfo32.exe free, to find what is inside this PC.
save and sure. here.
https://www.hwinfo.com/download/

not only that may see CPU overheat on this relic PC
let me guess the wifi usb dongle is dead due to maker,
does not support XP, most do not now.
18 years later, XP is now dead, for sure.
you are in the 0.2% world percentile of xp users, sad to watch this.

XP is too old to access the internet anymore! MS stopped updating or supporting XP years ago. Any system they stop supporting will eventually not be able to communicate with the internet. Operating Systems(XP) have to be update to communicate with internet upgrades, once that update process stops, your XP or others, will no longer work on internet.
time to buy new pc and windows os, ie. Windows 10

SOURCE: Wireless Adapter not working under Vista

Yes there is an oblong button. Under XP the button lights up and the wireless adapter works fine. Under Vista the button does not light up and the wireless network does not work. Have tried pressing the button but nothing. The wireless adapter is present and according to device manager is working however when I try to activate a windows help box pops up and tells me I need to turn on the wireless adapter by pressing the button on the front of the computer. Doesn't work whatever I try but it works fine under XP

SOURCE: can't enable Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN Mini-Card

I was using the wireless network, disabled the radio and after reboot was unable to get it to save the enable click. After reviewing all software options listed here - checked wireless adapter setting in BIOS - it was turned off! Turned this on in BIOS and upon boot was able to access wireless network again. Hope this helps you.

I formatted my pc purposely to install windows 7.after this, windows fail to install so i re-install windows xp.after this my wireless fail to work.when i tried it says'no supported wireless adapters...

If your computer originally was shipped with Windows XP pre-installed, and you used the "System Restore" CD/DVD disks that were shipped with the computer to reload Windows XP, the correct device-driver for the wireless-adapter should have been automatically installed.

If you used a different disk to reinstall Windows XP, then you can try two things:

1. Access ACER's web-site, do a search for your model, and see if the web-site offers the device-drivers for Windows XP for your model, or,

2. use an Ethernet cable to connect your computer to the Internet, and access: http://WindowsUpdate.Microsoft.com and do a "Custom" scan. When the scan completes, click the "Optional Hardware Updates" section, to see if Windows Update is offering a device-driver for your wireless adapter. If so, select and install that adapter.

I want to reformay my Dell Latitude D505 laptop. I have the reinstall disc with system software, device drivers, diagnostics and utilities as well as the windows XP Disc. Is this all I need ?

HI there,

It looks like you're good to go except you should, during rebuilding your system, go to the Dell Support Drivers & Downloads site (which they recommend), enter the service tag# for your laptop, and download and install most of your drivers from there as they will be the most recent.

Since you're using XP, you'll want to start with the XP disc and reformat and install XP first, then use your Dell Dsic that has drivers on it to install the LAN and WLAN (wired and wireless internet connection) drivers to get on the net and go to the Dell site.

I usually make a folder on the desktop and name it Drivers, then while at the Dell site dowload each driver, BIOS update, application, etc. to that folder so I can work directly from the driver files without constantly reconnecting to the Dell site every time I have to restart after a driver install that requires it.

Good Luck

System restore emachines T3504 disc missing, emachines no longer offers disc! computer is not that old! help! my daughter is heartbroken! i need the disk to complete a system restore.

Is their files that need to be retrieved from the computer? If you were doing a restore they would be lost. You have other options. Your best option is to just purchase a copy of windows xp and install a fresh copy of windows. you will still have to find the drivers on the internet and download and install the. All of this work should really be done by someone who is computer savvy but its really not that difficult.
Let me know if you have other questions.
Thanks,

Acer 5101 wireless issue

Hello

Remember, the default restore disc that comes with the laptop has all the drivers for your notebook. You installed xp now, and most probably the drivers for your wireless is not installed. My advive will be to download the drivers for xp for your wireless. Then it should work fine.

I have just reinstalled my friends IBM Thinkpad R50e with XP and I can't get internet working, wired or wireless

This the common catch 22 that happens when you install XP and it does not have the network drivers for the laptop you are working with on the disc. The fix is to go on the internet and download the drivers for your device, but wait... you can't get on the internet!

You will need a 2nd computer and a thumb drive/blank CD to resolve this. On the 2nd computer go to IBM's site to download your drivers here:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-55042.html

Download the network drivers to your thumb drive/CDR then install them on the R50e. In the future you should always keep a thumb drive or a burnt cd of your network drivers handy BEFORE an OS reinstall. Once you have the network drivers installed you can fix pretty much anything else that needs drivers. Also, be sure to run windows update and get all the patches for XP. It will take a long time, but it is VERY important.

You need to use a computer that has Internet access to download and transfer the files to your computer.
