My timer will not advance.

Normally that is a timer motor or motor gear and needs a new timer. Easy replacement, just unplug the washer, take the back off and replace one wire at a time from the old to the new. Then remove the old one and mount the new one. I had to replace mine a while back.

How to replace timer knob on Maytag PAV 2300 aww, old one snapped off leaving just the stem

This is from another site but does a good job of explaining how to change your timer:

The hardest part will be swapping the knob because you have to lift the top of it off and sometimes they can be fiesty.
WORDS OF CAUTION.

DO NOT pull all the wires off of the OLD timer. DO a ONE for ONE wire swap. i.e pull one wire from the old timer... and hook it up to the new one on the exact same terminal as the old timer.

Sounds like the timer motor may be dead. Can you hear it ticking when it is on or can you see the gear on the timer motor shaft turning when it is running? If not then the timer should be replaced.

you probably have a bad timer which can be replaced by taking the screws out of the top of the console and pulling the console towards you. the timer should stop after final rinse spin cycle.

Washer wont cycle thru

There is either a kicker solenoid that fires every minute to kick a gear, or a tiny AC 60Cycle Induction motor in there that probably burned out. You will need to fix by replacing that solenoid or motor, or the entire timer.

A spider or bug could also nave gotten in there and stopped the motor rotating 60x a second, but if a solenoid it burned out.

Timers cost $30-80.00 and can be bought at Sears, or a good appliance parts store (online too) all you need is model and serial#

Good Luck

Water will not fill .spin cycle and rinse cycle works maytag front loader 1994

Honestly do you want to stick money in a 14 year old Washer?

It sounds like a timer issue, if you can get a timer it will probably cost $100 american, and then next month the pump goes out,

To all my friends and customers I do not recommend repairing anything that is going to cost more the half of the cost of a new washer. Has the washer been fixed once before, to me that is strike two. Sears.com has a nice website to look at washing machine and features of all manufactures. We just bought a new frig and took them up on free delivery after rebate. And No I dont work for Sears.
