My Garmin 1450 keys do now respond when I press them, especially the top row. Others won't respond either intermidetly. Are these work repairing and how and how much? My Garmin 72H works on batteries, but not with only the power cable connected. I tried to wire it with an other wire but that also did not work. So the problem must be in the GPS... in the fuse? The Vista HCx has an electronic compass. You don't need to be moving
for it to work, but you do need to calibrate it. To calibrate the
compass:
Go to the Main Menu
Select Setup
Select Calibration
You will be asked "Which Sensor Would You Like To Calibrate", select Compass
You will see a page that says "To Calibrate Compass: Slowly Turn Two Full Circles In The Same Direction While Holding The Unit Level", select Enter and do this.
You need to hold the unit level for the Magnetic Compass to work correctly. The specs for a properly calibrated compass are +/- 5°

Try performing a factory reset. Be sure to save your favorites, routes, and waypoints before doing the reset as these will be deleted.
The factory reset is done with unit OFF. Press and hold PAGE button and ENTER
button and while holding the buttons turn ON the unit. Reset is complete.
Try to power off the device, if it does not turn off normally, then you will have to press and hold the power button till it responds. If it still does not responds, then you have to remove the battery and insert it back in then power it on. That should solve the problem for you. Take note that once you power it off, you will have to allow it rest for a while before you turn it back on so the unit will rest for a while and work effectively when turned on.
Hope this information was helpful. Thank you for using fixya.
When I try to turn it on it comes up with the “rino” initialization screen and buzzes/vibrates at 5 second intervals. It never goes past this screen.Occasionally, for about 1 second a small white bar will appear across the bottom saying “0%.I’ve recharged the Li battery and got the same result.I’ve tried it while connected to the charger.Same result.I’ve tried using the optional 4 AA battery pack with fresh alkaline batteries.Same result.Did the factory reboot (page/enter/power buttons). Same – except instead of a buzz/vibrate I get the tone every 5 seconds. Have to remove battery to turn off.
Contacted Garmin tech support today (10/22) - hope to hear from them soon.
I have the same problem. Satellite screen shows nothing except the rings. When I open the unit, one of the chip looks like broken; its label says K43 and V5.
This is normal! The compass looks like this in "course pointer" mode.
When you're looking at the described compass screen, press the lower left button and notice the line "bearing pointer". When you select that line and push the front joystick, you'll notice that the compass needle is "normal" again . And when you push the lower left button again, you'll see that the line has changed into "course pointer". Pushing the joystick again toggles between those two modes. The shifted needle indicates how far you drifted from the course that your route follows. See page 31 of the English manual for details.
