I beleave you should be able to use itunes to download the newest version and then restore (restore / upgrade) the ipod.

here are the instructions on how to perform a restore

How to restore your iPod:
For Windows:

  • 1. Make sure you've reinstalled the latest version of itunes.
  • 2. Open itunes, and then connect your iPod to your computer.
  • 3. After a few moments, it will appear in the source list in itunes.
  • 4. Select your iPod in the source list and you will see information about it appear in the Summary tab of the main itunes windows.
  • 5. Click the Restore button. You will be prompted with one or more restore options that may prompt itunes to automatically download of the latest iPod Software. The 4 possible restore options are:
    • Restore Option 1: Restore - Restores with same iPod Software version already on iPod.
    • Restore Option 2: Use Same Version - Restores with same iPod Software version already on iPod even though a newer version is available.
    • Restore Option 3: Use Newest Version - Restores with the latest iPod Software on your computer.
    • Restore Option 4: Restore and Update - Restores with the latest iPod Software on your computer.
  • 6. A progress bar will appear on the computer screen indicating that the first stage of the restore process has started. When this stage is completed, itunes will instruct you to leave iPod connected to your computer to complete restore.
  • 7. During the stage 2 of the restore process, the iPod will show an Apple logo as well as a progress bar at the bottom of the display. It is critical that the iPod remains connected to the computer or iPod Power adapter during this stage. Note: The progress bar may be difficult to see since the backlight on the iPod display may be off.
  • 8. After stage 2 of the restore process is complete and the iPod is connected to the computer, the itunes Setup Assistant window will appear asking you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences similar to when you connected your iPod for the first time.

Reprogram ipod

Plug your iPod to your computer and open iTunes, if iTunes doesn't open automatically.

If there is a new version of the firmware for your iPod, then iTunes gives you a pop-up message saying so.

Click "Update" if there is a newer version of the iPod firmware available to download.

If there is no new firmware, or you want to downgrade the firmware, then skip this step.

Download the iPod firmware you want to reprogram you iPod with from the Internet.

Websites such as Modifymyi, iClarified and Felixbruns (see Resources at bottom).

Right-click on the "Restore" button in iTunes and select the firmware for the iPod that you downloaded.

ITunes then backs up the music in your iPod, reprograms the iPod with the new firmware and then restores your iPod.

Ipod youch connects to wifi but not the internet. Facebook and safari just lock up and time out. Cant access the APP store either. Is it broken?

Hi there, if the iPod is definitely connecting to the wifi, then the chances are you may have to update the firmware. Have you updated the firmware recently? It's also possible if you have updated the firmware recently that the update has some bugs that its not allowing your iPod to open up some apps. But my 1st thought was that it's not connecting to your wifi properly. Try turning your iPod off and on, if this doesn't do anything try making a new connection to your wifi. Also just make sure the router is working properly, maybe turn on/off also or reset it. Hope this helps :)

Firmware

It is the program that makes your iPod touch function the way it should. We update that using software updates from iTunes.

How do you get it? If you're talking about .IPSW files for updating your device, you can get it from this website:

Ipod Classic Firmware rollback

Go to C:\Documents and Settings\*your user name*\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates.
Delete the firmware you don't want, in your case it'll be "iPod_24.1.1.1".
Turn off the internet (turn off the router/whatever).
Connect the iPod, then click Restore. As iTunes cannot connect to the internet and get the newest firmware (1.1.1), it will use the latest firmware in that folder, rolling you back to 1.0.2.

30g video hang!

Well, there's no need to panic - your iPod disk is probably OK. Here are few suggestions that may help you unfreeze the iPod and get it working again.

Step 1. Reset the iPod - Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.) Now press and hold the MENU and center button together for 10 seconds or until the Apple logo appears.

Step 2: If the above trick doesn't unlock the ipod, leave the device as such to drain the iPod battery. Once it discharges completely, reset and plug it to the computer for charging.

Always keep your iPod firmware updated - you can use itunes to check the latest version of the software from Apple website.

We tested this hack with the iPod Nano though it should work on other models as well like the shuffle or the video iPods.
