If you are using a refilled cartridge the contacts may no longer be good. They do wear out and every so often buy a new one and refill a few times before replacing again.

Will the Epson stylus office bx635fwd print if only the black has ink in it ?

Since 2005 Epson and all other inkjet manufacturers use a little of the colors to print black. so ,no,you will not be able to print just clack.
Even color laser printers use the colors to print black. The exceptions since 2009 have been the Canon color lasers and the HP color lasers units they provide print engine for.

Kodak esp 5210 wont print black

I figured it out. If you are low on (25%) on either colors or black, then it won't print. Even if you load a new black cartridge and it reads as 100% black, it won't print because it will only print when BOTH cartridges have been replaced and reads 100%.
Same thing happens reversed with color being replaced.
So basically, ALL printers short you 25% ink and FORCE you to buy their ink more often. Kodak is no exception.
I have 100% black and 25% color and a BW only needed text paper won't print. I been through this before. *facepalm*

Having trouble fitting new ink cartridge

Hi, when an ink cartridge runs low in your HP Officejet 5610 All-in-One printer, you will see a message on the printer's display screen. Faded-looking text or pictures also indicate low ink. Ensure print quality by replacing ink cartridges when they run low.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

* HP #27 or #56 black, #22 color or #58 color photo print cartridge, or compatible equivalent

Turn printer on if it is off. Never attempt to change the ink cartridge if the printer is off. If it is off, it will not properly position or release ink cartridges, and attempting to change the ink cartridges may damage the printer.

Open the print-carriage door, located on the right side of the printer. The print carriage will automatically move into the access area.

Push down on the top edge of the cartridge you are replacing to pop it out of its slot. Remove the print cartridge and discard or recycle.

Pull off the protective tape on the new print cartridge using the pink tab. Do not touch any part of the cartridge except the black plastic. Touching the contacts or ink nozzles under the protective tape can damage the cartridge and result in poor print quality.

Hold the cartridge upright and push gently forward into the empty ink cartridge slot until it clicks.

Close the print-carriage door.

I replaced the printhead back in january, but did not use the printer. it has been packed up until now. i replaced the ink cartridges and put in the new print head. but cannot see the text or anything...

It is not clear which print head you changed. some time the printer, if it has 2 different print head, for black and color, you may have to try changing the black print head.
But before doing all that , make sure that the ink cartridges are full.
print an alignment page and then try to make a standalone copy.

clean the ink cartridge with lint free cloth. Also check the preview of the text before printing.

You may also try to do a complete uninstall and then reinstall of the printer driver.

Printer only won't print in black

My printer did that a few months ago. I tried everything to get it printing black but in the end I had to take the ink cartridge back and return a new one. Some ink cartridges dry out when they are being shipped if not stored in proper conditions.

I HAVE A HP PRINTER "PHOTOSMART C5580" HOW DO I GET TO CHANGE THE DEFAULT INK. I VERY SELDOM PRINT IN COLOR, AND WOULD LIKE TO BE ABLE TO ALWAYS PRINT IN BLACK ONLY, EXCEPT WHEN I NEED TO GET COLOR AND TO...

To replace the ink cartridges
1. Make sure the HP All-in-One is turned on.
2. Open the ink cartridge door by lifting from the front center of the device, until the door locks into place.
3. Squeeze the tab below an ink cartridge to release the latch inside the HP All-in-One, and then lift the latch.
If you are replacing the black ink cartridge, lift the latch on the far left.
If you are replacing one of the five color ink cartridges, such as yellow, light cyan (blue), cyan, light magenta (pink), or magenta, lift the appropriate latch in the center area.
4. Pull the ink cartridge toward you out of its slot to remove it.
5. Remove the new ink cartridge from its packaging, and then, holding it by the handle, slide the ink cartridge into the empty slot.
Make sure that you insert the ink cartridge into the slot that has the same shaped icon and color as the one you are installing.
6. Press down on the gray latch until it clicks into place.
7. Repeat steps 2 through 5 for each ink cartridge you are replacing.
8. Close the ink cartridge door.

re Printing in black only - you can do this by selection this option from your application and choosing the print properties of the printer and setting to Black / Greyscale printing only.

Ran out of color ink on cnnon mx310 ... want to

If when you attempt to print only with the black cartridge installed but it won't print, then this specific printer requires that color ink also be installed. Typical with most inkjets.

MP730 prints all colors EXCEPT Black

I had the same problem. After replacing the Cyan and Black the Black would not print. I deep cleaned the cartridges about 8 times, interchanging cleaning and printing test pages. Eventually the cartridges began working properly again. I know this is not much help, but it has worked for me.
