Down grade then reupgrade to your wmp 11. Sound like a file is corrupted. Or you can try to add/remove program and select rapir (if there's an option)

try installing winamp. see if you still have the problem. If you still do then it is your system and not the software it self.

Hello, im using sony vaio VPCEB3J1E,speaker is not working but head is working, what is the problem?

For Vista/windows 7
Check with volume settings.

Right click on the speaker icon in taskbar and select volume control options.

Put a check mark on "All devices currently playing sound".

Make sure you have "The default communication device unchecked".

Place a check mark on both speakers and headphones.

For Windows XP

- Speakers, Headphones

In "Control Panel", select "Switch to Classic View", and open "Sounds and Audio Devices".

In "Sounds and Audio Devices Properties", click the "Audio" tab, and click the "Volume" of "Sound playback".

On the "Master Volume" screen, click "Properties" in the "Options" menu.

Add a check mark to "Playback" of "Adjust volume for" on the "Properties" screen, and check marks to "Master Volume" and "Wave" for the control to be displayed, and click the "OK" button.

On the "Master Volume" screen, remove the check marks from "Mute all" of "Master Volume" and "Mute" of "Wave".
Note: The settings may differ depending on the PC you are using. Please check items such as sound in the manual for the PC you are using.

There are no active mixer drivers available information msg comes when i clicked volume cntroller

Go to Start - Programs - Accessories - Multimedia or Entertainment and then select Volume Control. Note: If you have more than one playback device installed in your computer, make sure that the proper device has been selected before modifying the mixer control settings. To do so, select Properties from the Options menu, and make sure that the proper device has been selected.
Make sure that the Mute All check box below the Volume Control slider and the Mute check box below the Wave slider are not checked, and that the Balance sliders for Volume Control and Wave are in the center of the scale.
Move the Volume Control and Wave sliders at least halfway to the top of the scale. If the Play Control and Wave sliders do not appear, select Properties from the Options menu, and then make sure the Play Control and Wave check boxes are checked. You may need to adjust the current Play Control or Wave slider settings to play wave files at the volume level you want.
If you hear popping or crackling noise from USB speakers, turn off the SpeedStep (if you have a Intel Mobile Pentium III processor) functionality during the sound session. To do so, set the power scheme to an non-adaptive mode: Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Performance and Maintenance, and click Power Options. On the Power Schemes tab, click Always On in the Power schemes box, and then click OK.

The volume control does nothing, you cannot turn it up or down even on zero you can hear music. There is a lot of static at all times, even when playing the CD

Looks like a lot electrolytic capacitors on the electronics volume control IC may be leaky...This require change of electronic components i.e. the faulty capacitors..

Wave on master volume keeps decreasing on its own

I have nver come accross a setting that will lock the volume to a set level before, but here are a couple of possibilities that you may want to investigate for the cause.

  1. Not all programs use the master volume control, so do, but most adjust the sound by the wav output. Put the mixer onto the desktop, open things like winamp, media player etc and adjust the volume controls on those to see what is doing what.
  2. If you have a multimedia keyboard with a volume control on it, make sure when your typing it's not adjusting the volume at the same time. Again, put the mixer on the desktop out of the way and type as you would normally. It could even be just the vibrations from typing setting it off.
See how you go and post back your results

I HAVE AUDIO RECORDINGS THAT HAVE LOTS OF BACKGROUND NOISE. WHATS THE BEST PROGRAM FOR CLEANING UP BACKGROUND NOISE, I DOWNLOADED A FREE TRIAL OF AUDITION. CAN I USE THIS PROGRAM? I HAVE NO CLUE HOW TO...

a bit late, only just saw this question. my understanding is that clearing up background noise is a specialist task. if you look at a sound wave it's really difficult to discern the main wave from additional noise. and although its possible to edit out the background of a photograph, that gets a lot trickier with a video if you follow my metaphor. the best most of us can do is open the file in a sound app (i'm on a mac so i use quicktime for this) and find the menu option to raise the volume. Now its absolutely possible that someone has come up with some new software that i haven't heard of yet of course. however good practice is; make sure you record at a good volume to start with- either do an audio test and listen back or set the levels with a headphone.

Sound only works while testing and is usually low. DVDs or any sound from the internet do not work. This problem has been there for a long time and its really irritating me. Thank god i found this site....

I will assume you have windows xp, since you did not state with OS you are using. Is the sound turned up on the volume control? On the volume control make sure both the wave and master volume are correctly set.

If you do not know how to open the volume control, goto start, then click run, not type "sndvol32".

If this is not the case then you are having driver issues with your sound card. Make sure the sound drivers are installed and configured.

First check the volume control then check the drivers.
