Since I have my self the same issue with both an SR6001 & SR8001 AV receivers, I know exactly what you want to do. I assume by asking you want to reset the Marantz you mean this has went into Stand By mode, after a message "Protection" appeared on the screen of the machine. Is this correct? If yes, you cannot turn on the machine, and there is absolutely no response after pressing any button on the remote.
Please give me detailed info and I will tell you what to do in order to get rid of this problems once for all.

Usually the headphone jack is like a mechanical switch and it's probably just not making a good connection inside. Use the correct size headphone jack and insert it then remove it maybe a couple of times and see if that fixes it.
It needs to be serviced. Bad caps, resistors, & possibly a transistor or two. Not an unbearable repair, but you can count on it being 100-175 depending on the shop. You followed all the troubleshooting you could without opening the unit.
hi,
check the power supply voltages 5v, +-15v. also check the power on relay driver side. also check is there is any dry soldering in power supply stage. check the output amplifiers is there is any transistor faulty. for any further assistance feel free to contact through fixya.
ok
blinking power lights are a factory setting to inform the customer there is an internal electronic fault. and the unit needs to be repaired by a service pro in 99% of cases the owner can do nothing to fix it.
These are blind posts (i.e the unscrew back) but will not allow you to unscrew them fully to use spades. Only bananas (of any type) and bare wire (do not recommend it).
I own the same SR and faced many issues (even going into "protection mode") due to bad quality binding posts used on this machine.
For any clarifications (specific type of terminals) let me know.
Test all your speaker impedances and check for shorts on both wiring and speakers. Use a digital multimeter. If you still have an issue, disconnect all speakers and test receiver. If you still have a problem, post a comment and I can help some more.
