SOURCE: Fresh Food & Freezer Warm

CHECK AND MAKE SURE YOU CAN HEAR YOUR EVAPORATOR FAN RUNNING (INSIDE MOTOR). IF IT IS NOT RUNNING ... AND YOUR COMPRESSOR IS RUNNING. THE MOTOR OR DEFROST TEMENATION SWICTH COULD BE DEFECTIVE. IF NOTHING IS RUNNING ... TRY TO LOCATE THE DEFROST TIMER(USUALLY LOCATED WHERE YOUR COLD CONTROLS ARE) YOU SHOULD SEE A SMALL HOLE WHERE YOU CAN MANUALLY TURN THE TIMER WITH A SCREW DRIVER.IT CAN ONLY TURN IN ONE DIRECTION. IF THE MOTOR IS RUNNING. CHECK TO SEE IF COMPRESSOR IN THE BACK IS RUNNING ... IF IT ISNT AND IS "HOT" (BE CAREFULL) SEE IF THE CONDENSER MOTOR NEAR THE COMPRESSOR IS RUNNING ... IF NOT ... THE COND. MOTOR IS BAD ... THAT MOTOR RUNS IF POWER IS GOING TO THE COMPRESSOR ALWAYS. IF COMPRESSOR IS HOT AND NOT RUNNING AND COND. FAN IS RUNNING .... UN PLUG FRIG AND WAIT TILL COMPRESSOR IS COOL TO THE TOUCH. THESE COMPRESSORS HAVE AN INTERNAL T-STAT THAT PROTECTS THE COMPRESSOR IF IT SHORT CYCLES.IT SOMETIMES GETS SO HOT IT DOES TAKE HOURS TO COOL OFF. THERE IS ALSO A DEFROST-TERMINATION SWITCH THAT CAN GO BAD. CONSULT A LICSESED FACTORY CERTIFIED COMPANY TO GIVE YOU A FIXED-PRICE DIAGNOSTIC TEST.

SOURCE: freezer works but fresh food seems warm

If you have frost on the back wall of the freezer compartment you have a defrost problem. When the freezer coil does not defrost the refrigerator does not get air for cooling.

SOURCE: Whirpool Side by Side making loud humming noise from freezer side

I had the exact same issue last night. I would press on the back panel long enough and the noise would go away only to return this morning at 4am. I finally got up took all of the bins and shelves out and found an very large accummulation of ice at the bottom (floor) and walls of the freezer. The ice accummulation was causing the rattling of the tubes in the wall of the freezer (I don't know what you call them), but they were frozen over on one side. I found this out once I took the back wall panel off of the inside of the freezer. I also found the drain hole back there and it was frozen over solid, as well as my ice dispensing unit at the top of the freezer. This whole problem began when I turned on the ice maker 3 days ago. I used my hair dryer and hot water to clear all of the ice from both areas and now it is nice and quiet. Don't know if the acccummulation is due to some defrost switch gone haywire, but at least the rattling is gone and my freezer is back to square 1 for the time being and I saved myself a visit from the appliance guy in the meantime. Took me a total of 1 1/2 hours to do it all.

Not cooling or freezing

Hi Mick, this is AP.

I understand you are experiencing a no cool situation in your Frigidaire refrigerator. On your model, FRS26R4A, specifically the first thing to check it to make sure the refrigerator and freezer controls are not set to "0", turning the Freezer and Fresh Food Controls to "0" turns off the compressor and prevents your refrigerator from cooling, but does not disconnect the power to the light bulb and other electrical components. If you hear the noise coming from the freezer compartment it could be something blocking the evaporator fan which would cause warm temps in the fresh food and freezer section. If the noise is coming from behind the appliance it could be something in the condenser fan or the compressor may be locked up. I would definitely recommend contacting an authorized technician to repair your appliance if you find the temperature controls are not the cause of your high temperatures in the refrigerator. I hope this information helps.

Thanks,

Fridgidaire refrigerator flashing error code 4

From what I remember a flashing 4 means "damper error". Send your model number found inside or on the outside of the fresh food section, The air damper is found between the freezer and fresh food section and regulates temperature in the fresh food section by opening wide for things that warm up your fresh food section example would be opening the door and letting warm air inside . The damper then closes to keep the right temperature. If you have questions please ask, Thanks Sea Breeze

Kenmore 596 - temp control panel not responding when up or down buttons selected. Fridge too cold. Freezing items in fridge after power outage last night.

Hi,
Most times this is a bad cold control, but there are other things to check for. Make sure the condenser fan is working and the coils are not covered with dust. A separated heat exchanger ( small capillary tubing soldered to the large suction line ) can separate from one another and make the fridge run too long. - tape tubing back together. A poor working evaporator fan motor could also make the fridge run too long and freeze - replace the fan motor. An inefficient compressor or refrigeration system could make the fridge run too long and freeze - have a service tech check this out. A misaligned control settings, make sure the air damper and cold control have not been bumped and are out of normal settings. Stuck open air diffusers or air dampers are becoming more and more common for allowing too much air to be blown into the fresh food section and freezing things. On all frost free fridge's the freezer temp air is blown into the fresh food section, if you have "easy" to freeze items ( eggs, veggies in water, etc ) in front of or under where the freezer temp air comes out, they could freeze - store them in a different spot. Doors not closing properly making the fridge run too long is something else to check for.
Okay, hope this will help in solving problem

Side-by-Side: Refrigerator will not maintain temp below 50 Deg. Freezer works fine - where is the problem? Model Number MSD2757AE

Your problem may be with:

* the "damper control assembly", which is located in the upper left side of the fresh food compartment. This control regulates the amount of cold air originating from the freezer compartment that enters the fresh food compartment.
* there may be an issue with the "fresh food temperature control assembly"

Check the temperature settings in the fresh food compartment (should be located up front). I recommend the "one-half way mark" for both freezer and fresh food compartments.

Contact an appliance service company.

Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

Top refrigerator not cooling--freezer icy

This has happened in my GE side-by-side (model GSS20IEMDWW). For me, the problem was caused by a faulty temp sensor in the fresh food side. That sensor never signalled the computer that the temp in the fresh food side was cool enough, so the compressor ran constantly.

Since the compressor was running constantly, the evaporator coils (back wall of the freezer compartment) eventually iced over (took about a week). Since the fan that draws air over the evaporator coils could no longer move any air (due to the icing), the temperature in the fresh food side continued to climb. (The fresh food side is chilled through a hole with a motorized door at the top of the dividing wall, so if no air is moving in the freezer compartment, temps in the fresh food compartment climb.)

I replaced the temp sensor in the fresh food side and solved the problem for a while. About six months later I had the same problem again, so I replaced both temp sensors in the freezer compartment - which solved the problem again. (My fridge is about seven years old.)

If you are going to replace any of the temp sensors, replace them all under the principle of "if one failed, the rest will soon fail too".

I have a refrigerator that is 10 years old it is a tpx24pbe bb model number and the refrigerator side is staying at 50 degrees what is the problem?

On my GE side by side (model GSS20IEMDWW), a warm fresh food side, as well as iced-over evaporator coils in the freezer, was caused by the temp sensor in the fresh food side sending faulty data to the computer.

The temp in the fresh food side would climb because air could no longer pass over the iced-up coils in the freezer side.

For me, the faulty fresh food side sensor made the computer always thing the fresh food side was too warm, making it constantly run the compressor (thus icing up the coils).

If you do not have a coil icing problem in the freezer, then your fresh food side temp sensor may be telling the computer that the fresh food side is already cold enough.

Top mounted freezer on refrigerator not working

Move the refrigerator to a room that is at least 50 degrees F.

Temps on most refrigerators are regulated by the fresh foods temp. If your garage is let's say 35 degrees, the fresh foods temp will most likely never raise enough to turn the refrigerator on. With the refrigerator never running, the freezer compartment will warm to 35 degrees, resulting in everything melting. Even if garage is a bit warmer, say 45, the refrig will not run long enough for the freezer to maintain a low enough temperture. If the garage temp falls to below freezing, say 20 degrees, the food in the fresh foods compartment will freeze. (outdoor beverage dispensers have internal heaters to prevent product from freezing !) Please don't rate this if not a Fix-Ya for you, as anything else lowers my score.
