Gatateway desktop computer will not start up.

    are you getting any kind of error messages when you turn on the PC? when you turn it on do get the windows logo or its not going there? any recent software that you installed or hardware that you attached to the PC? what is the operating system that you have?

However, before you can use the utility on your Windows 7 computer, you must enable it on the Windows XP computer. To connect to the Windows XP computer, you also need to know the XP computer's name.

Instructions

Enable Remote Desktop on the Windows XP Computer
  1. Click "Start" on the Windows XP computer, and then right-click "My Computer."
  2. Click "Properties" from the pop-up menu.
  3. Click the "Remote" tab, and then click the "Allow Users to Connect Remotely to This Computer" check box.
  4. Click "OK" to confirm the change when prompted on the pop-up window. Click "OK" on the open windows to close them.

Connect to the Windows XP Computer
  1. Click "Start" on the Windows 7 computer, and then type "Remote Desktop Connection" in the search box. Press "Enter."
  2. Click "Remote Desktop Connection" from the results list.
  3. Type the name of the XP computer in the "Computer" box, and then click "Connect" to connect to the XP computer.

How to locate "my computer"

To put the MY COMPUTER icon on the desktop, click the START button and right click on COMPUTER. Click the "SHOW ON DESKTOP" item in the menu and your COMPUTER icon will show up on your desktop . . Easy, yes?

Im not sure if I understood it right ...but if you are saying that you can not locate the my computer folder just go to start and press My computer line ..and you will end up in the same place like from the desktop ....If you want to place again the my computer on the desktop...just right click on the desktop ..choose properties..than desktop ...In there it has a feature called customize desktop ...and all you have to do is to click on the windows item you need on desktop ...or ..if this seam too hard ..just go to start ..locate my computer link ...click right on it ..and choose send to desktop ..
