Cast iron grates-scratched form kids scraping pots across burner. Scratch area are are white. It is strictly a cosmetic problem. Now when I clean them it is even more noticeable. It may have been from me scrubbing them --even thou I uses nonabrasive pads and cleaner. They did this the 1st 5-6months I had the stove. When I called customer service they were going to send out more grates but never did and that was over 2 years ago. I gave up. Hope you can help

SOURCE: CAN YOU USE CAST IRON SKILLETS ON RADIANT GLASS COOK TOPS?

you CAN use the skillet, but not with great results id assume, it holds too much heat, and problaby a bit too rough underneath and would probably scratch the glass top, in a family business for over 20 yrs. now and thats my recomendation, my brother also in the same feild swears his wife uses it with no issues!!!

Cleaning cast iron grates on a gas stove, "not porselen."

Gratings on gas stoves aren't usually very rough and are mostly covered with vitreous enamel to make them easier to clean for the first few years.

An engineer would season a casting by leaving it outside for several months for the sun, wind and rain and a large number of temperature changes to prepare it for service.

A cook seasons a cast iron cookpot by soaking it with oil and effectively burning it off though there are more sophisticated methods an internet search will reveal.

In the old days cast iron ranges were a daily chore for the housewife. Parts that could be polished were sanded with emery cloth and the rest was polished with a preparation called "black lead grate polish".
These days the stuff no longer contains any lead but grate polish is widely available.

Can I use Cast Iron Pots and Skillets on my new Frigidaire Gallery Stove Top?

Hello friend, thanks for your post!
It is not recommended to use any cast iron pots or skillets on a Frigidaire smooth top. In your manual it provides the best type of cookware material and cast iron is a poor heat conductor. Due to the weight of the cast iron it can cause scratches or damage the cooktop. I hope this information has been helpful. -Matt

IM ROUGHING IN PLUMBING FOR A SHOWER TOILET AND SINK. 8 BY6 BATHROOM FROM SCRATCH CAST IRON STACK ALREADY CUT AROUND REMOVE CEMENT SHOULD THE WHOLE INCLUDING CLEAN OUT , REPLACE IT WITH PVC OR JUST CUT IN...

always replace cast iron if its not a problem to do so, especially if it looks rough or is leaking or rusting. there are simple special black neoprene boots used to connect cast iron to pvc and do not require anything but a screwdriver, no slovents or sealers are required. always check for leaks if you make an underground connection before you cement the spot back up. its better to use gravel to fill this area in if your particular situation will allow.

Ironed on synthetic fabric by mistake and fabric melted on the iron soleplate. How can we clean it off? Please Help! Thank you

You could turn the iron on again - set to cotton or highest setting and allow it to completely burn off. Do this outdoors or well ventilated area indoors (no smoke detectors on!)

Or, you could warm the iron and use a plastic putty knife to scrape as much material from the iron as possible. A metal knife will scratch and mar the surface. When cool, use a scotchbrite pad to buff away remaining deposits on the iron.

Good luck!

I have a Kitchenaid electric range Architect Series II. Seems every time I use the large burner on the right side there is some sort of residue left that is very hard to get off. I have already made a...

What are you using to clean the stove? Only cleaners made for ceran type tops should be used according to directions. Do not use enamel coated pans or glass pans on your cooktop. If you have a boil over, turn off the burner and change to a different burner immediately. Clean up the spill completely before cooking on that burner again. Use a flat edge razor to clean tough residue. Your cooktop will look new for years to come, even with heavy use.

As far as the scratch, don't use abrasive cleaners on the top and only use pots and pans with flat bottoms. If you do use cast iron pans, never scoot them around on the top.
