My mum and dad recently bourght me a toshiba L40 laptop. I downloaded msn messenger onto my laptop and someone sent me a trojan horse. My laptop started to get weaker and i started to lose things off it. It deleted files and my start bar and desktop files dissapeared. I lost internet connection as i was on wireless and everytime i turned my laptop on it turned back off. My laptop is only five months old and it is brand new. I have misplaced my reboot disk and i have searched everywhere for it but cannot seem to find it. I was wondering if you had any sollutions for me to try to fix my laptop.It is very important to me because i have exams and therefore need the laptop for revision work. If you could offer me a few sollutions i would be very grateful.Thank you

1. Your Dad's computer must have remote login enabled for you to get into it's file system. Generally, you must also have an administrator-level account (user name and password) on that computer.

2. If your Dad's computer is set up as a webserver, and you want to change the website remotely, then it would have to have a link for a site administrator login. This should be a secure (https) page.

Those things have to be set up at the computer by someone with administrator level access. If nobody knows the password for an administrator level account on that computer, there probably is not much that can be done other than to go to the computer and copy or e-mail whatever files are accessible. Some people sell "password unlocking" software, but I cannot vouch for its effectiveness, nor its security - if it contains a Trojan Horse it would make the computer open to whatever hacker installed the Trojan Horse.

On the other hand, if your Dad had a webpage set up on a web hosting service, you do not need access to your Dad's computer to get to it. If you don't have the administrator username or password for the page, you may be able to get the hosting service to provide you with access once you show your legal authority to do so. This also holds for e-mail accounts.

There is no longer a program called MSN - for nearly 6 years! The only MSN software now are Trojans, however there is still a MSN Web Portal to access Hotmail accounts.
Download Windows Live Messenger and use the built in configuration utility when you set it up.

MSN Microsoft Network does not have a messenger per sey, Let me give you a download link to the "live essentials" witch does have messenger in it.

*Note you have not told us WHY or what error message if ANY you are getting so we are giving you a download link that will have all the messenger stuff with it. Perhaps you did not have a certain program that went with it.

I suggest downloading a new msn or lose MSN
than go to
start
control panel
add&remove programs
‘windows live essentials’(if using WLM 2009)
‘windows live messenger’(if using WLM 8.5)
click on 'remove'
and then on 'repair'
wait til the wizard finishes
sign in again

no the persons pc who uses the email address has the trojan, not you.

You can buy a WindowsXP Service Pack 2 install in any authorized re-seller, then you can download all the needed drivers for your Toshiba L40 in the internet you can see the drivers here, just simply indicate what kind of driver you wan to download.

For the certificate expired problem, check the time and date to make sure it is correct. If it is not the you need to replace the BIOS battery on your laptop. (Not something I recommend you trying yourself, take to a Local shop)
I suggest uninstalling then reinstalling msn messenger.

As long as she is accepting your call when invited it should show up a little MSN advert then show your picture. The problem may be at your end, so check that you have the cam set up in settings and you both allow video to be accepted, ckeck all the web cam settings and menu options. If you haven't already, download MSN live messenger.
