On this machine the toner cartridge is installed into the drum unit so they are separate units. After opening the front door you can lift and then pull out the toner cartridge/drum unit assembly. There is a blue release lever thet is used to release the toner cartridge from the drum unit. As far as the difference? Well the toner cartridge contains the toner, and the drum unit contains the drum as well as other parts that make up the print "process". The toner is good for about 5,000 pages while the drum unit is good for about 18,000 pages. The drum unit life indicator can be reset to get additional life from the drum unit. To do this, open the front door and leave it open. The press the clear/stop key, then press 1

How do I clean the drum on a brother mfc 8860dn

Follow thesesteps : 1. Open the printer and remove the toner cartridge. 2. Inspect the drum for obvious damage. If it's damaged, don't try to clean it; replace it. 3. Remove any large spots of toner on the drum with tweezers or pliers. Be careful not to scratch the surface. 4. Dip a cotton swab in a rubbing alcohol. Gently swipe any visible soil. 5. Put a couple of drops of alcohol on a soft, lint-free cloth if the entire drum looks dirty. Carefully wipe the drum. 6 Check the other parts for dirt while you have the cartridge out. Carefully clean them. 7 Reinstall the cartridge and print a couple of test pages. If the problem persists, you probably need a new drum.

Brother MFC 8660DN "Toner Error Reinstall Drum I got a new drum, new toner and still printer isn't working and show the error reinstall drum unit please help

Pull the drum/toner out and look into the machine, at the wall on your left. There's a little plastic lever there that pivots to detect a new toner cartridge. Sometimes the lever gets sticky; wiggle it to free it up. If you feel brave enough to remove the outside cover of the machine on that side, you can put a dab of grease on the lever's pivot.
