Press the S--D key just above the DEL key to switch a single value between symbolic and decimal forms. To have all results come out in decimal, press SHIFT MODE 2 to select the LineIO mode.
You want to change the display mode. Press SHIFT MODE. Then press 6 and a number specifying the number of digits after the decimal point for fixed decimal notation, or 6 and 1 or 2 to specify one of the floating point modes.
To convert a single result from symbolic (fractional) form to decimal, press S--D. To have all results come out in decimal, press SHIFT MODE 2 to switch to the LineIO mode.
The calculator has two Input/Output modes: MathIO and LineIO.
LineIO LineIO is the old way of entering numbers in calculators and results are always displayed as decimal numbers. Some calculators have a fraction feature and would convert a fraction to a decimal number and back.
MathIO In MathIO you enter expressions as you would by hand or as you see them written in textbooks. In this mode, results are by default displayed as fraction or fractions/ radicals. Conversion To convert the fraction/radical to decimals you just press the [SD] key. If you press again you cycle through all the available display formats. So you can (if you want) use the MathIO to manipulate expressions and convert only the last result to decimal. By the way, fractions and radicals are generally more accurate than their decimal representations.
SetUP If however seeing fractions and radicals is too painful, just set the LineIO as your default mode. To do so press [SHIFT][MODE] to open (SETUP), then select [2:LineIO]
It is just a matter of being in EXACT mode. To set your calculator in EXACT mode here's the key sequence. Press [MODE] [F3] [Up Arrow] [Up Arrow] [Right Arrow] [2] [ENTER]. Now when your in the Matrix Editor you can input your numbers in decimal form and, they will be automatically be converted to a fractional format. Pictured below is a matrix that was entered using decimal numbers and, was converted into factional form. Notice at the bottom of the screen the calculator is in EXACT mode.
Here's the same matrix in the HOME screen.
Next is the same matrix converted back to decimal numbers. Notice at the bottom of the screen the calculator is in APPROX mode.
And of course when I turn the calculator back to EXACT mode and, Re-ENTER the decimal formatted matrix in the HOME screen the fractional formatted matrix reappears.
You can use the propFrac( command but, having in the EXACT mode setting works better.
To convert a single value between fractional and decimal forms, press SD. To have all results come out in decimal form, press SHIFT MODE 2 to select LineIO mode.
If you do not want to see fractions and radicals anymore just set the calculator input output (I/O) mode to lineIO: Press [SHIFT][MODE](SETUP) and select [2:LineIO].
If, however, you appreciate the functionalities of the MathIO that allow you to manipulate fractions, radicals, and other nifty things you could not do before, but just want your final results to be in decimal fornat that can be arranged too. Here is how
Set the I/O mode to MtahIO: Press [SHIFT][MODE][1:MthIO]
Enter your expressions, and when you are finished press [SHIFT][=]. Your result will be in decimal fornat.
Alternatively, you can calculate your result in MthIO and convert the fractions/radicals to decimals by pressing the [S<=>D] key, the one located between the [)] and the [M+] keys.
Every time you press that key you toggle the display from fractions/radicals to decimal and back.
Hello, To change the displayed result from fraction format to decimal, press the [S<->D] key. You can also configure the calculator to be in LineIO mode. In this mode, all results are in decimal format. To set the LineIO mode , press [SHIFT][MODE][2:LineIO] Hope it helps.
