SOURCE: Door doesn't close properly, leaks water

If the door seals are still pliable and intact there are two possible causes.

1/ The upper door hinge on the top of freezer unit has two adjusting screws under a plastic cover/cap which allows the upper hinge to be set forward or back altering/adjusting the spacing of the door seal to the freezer body. Moving the hinge outward at the top will cause the door to seal tighter at the bottom and lessen escaping cold air and condensation to form (water droplets). Adjust carefully so as not to create a weak seal (air gap) along other sealing edges of the door frame.

2/ Many United Refrigeration Commercial Freezers are manual defrosting. Moisture from inside the freezer can condense between the inner molded door panel (door shelves) and the exterior metal door. Usually ice buildup will occur in this space, but when defrosting or during high ambient temps the ice will melt and drip out along the bottom door edge/seal. Screws alomg the door frame (hidden by the door seal) hold the seal in place and also the inner molded door panel. The inner panel can be removed to replace the seal or to remove the ice buildup.

How do i get a gasket replaced on a sears kenmore freezer model 31165

Order the new gasket using your model number- 31165 is not a valid/complete model. Remove the door and lay it flat on the floor, then remove the screws from the upper half of the door perimeter- DO NOT remove all the screws at once or you will be unhappy! Pull the top half of the old gasket away from the door, then put the top half of the new gasket in place and screw it back down. Next, remove the bottom half of the screws and pull the old gasket off, then put the bottom half of the new gasket in place and screw it down. If you try to do it all at once, the door will flex out of plane and won't lay flat when you re-attach it. You might need a hair dryer to soften the gasket if it was deformed during shipping. If you have a newer, press-fit style gasket, just yank it and press the new one in... Door Gasket 241872513

Frigidaire frost free upright freezer door corner dripping

Hello Yellow, thank you for your post!

I understand that your Frigidaire freezer is dripping water out of the corner of the door. It is possible that with your power going out the heat may have caused the gasket to warp. Do you see any frost build-up? The water that is dripping could be coming from condensation within the freezer. I would recommend checking the gasket to see if it is allowing warm air to enter the freezer.

I recommend that you visually inspect the door gasket for defects such as gaps or tears. You can also use a dollar bill to test the door gasket. Place a dollar bill in between the door and the body of the freezer. If the dollar bill pulls out with no to little resistance, you may need to replace the door gasket. A faulty door gasket can allow warm air to enter the compartment and cause frost to condensation or a leak. I hope this information is helpful. -Matt

We have a Kenmore 16, model model 253.8283680, that recently continuously cycles on and off. What could be the problem associated with this?

Hello;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

The normal cycle is: Your compressor will turn on to raise the freezer temperature 20 degrees F. above the set temperature, and then the compressor will shut off, Until the freezer temperature drops 20 degrees F. below the set temperature and again the compressor will turn on.

One of the main problems with this type of freezer is the door gasket becomes crushed over time or the door is so thin it becomes deformed.

Do not try to replace the door gasket. You have to soak the new gasket in hot water for 1/2 hour and then form it on the door.

If you notice a gap in the corner of the door - pull hard on it to get it flush.

Recondition the door gasket - With a hair dryer and a kitchen spatula, heat the gasket and try to expand the gasket by pulling out with the spatula.

You can purchase a special freezer lubricant. Be sure not to over do it. It can make the door hard to open. P/N 542638

PARTS NUMBER

Hello Jerry;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

You need to provide a model number for me to give you the gasket part number and price. The model number is on a label in your fresh food section on the upper side wall.

You have a bottom freezer, Right? These bottom freezer drawers are had to seal all of the time. They can get off track and not seal properly. It is not uncommon for them to ice up around the door gasket.

Lets try this first:

1.) Clean the gasket.

2.) With a hair dryer and a kitchen spatula, Heat the gasket while pulling gentle out on the gasket, to expand the gasket.

3.) Run a piece of paper between the gasket and the freezer front. If you can do this, then you still do not have a solid seal.

I have an old Ben Hur chest freezer that's still working good. It's so big, we put a cow and pig in it. I need to replace the gasket on the door. Any ideas?

there are several refrigeration houses that can have gaskets custom made to your spect. I would call Rick at Restaurant Parts and More and see if he can help. 1-888-814-1110.
If you have a model and serial numbers, this may also help as he does have access to some manufacturers for OEM parts.

Stand up freezer builds up frost quickly

It sounds like you may be on the right track here. If the gasket is old, hard, and brittle, it will allow moisture to be administered into the freezer, causing frost buildup. Not to mention, that old door gasket is leaking out a lot of cold air. Your best bet is to provide the model number (as you've shown here) and the serial number to an appliance parts store or authorized GE appliance parts outlet. They should be able to provide you with a brand new gasket. Removal and re-installation of the new gasket is fairly simple and you'll notice a big difference, not only in the lack of frost buildup on the inside of the freezer (especially in the summer) but you may even see a noted improvement on your electric bill as well!

I hope this helps and let me know if you need any further assistance! :)
