Your local Radio Shack store sell scanner books based on geographical location and used to (still might) on types of services you're interested in monitoring. This was before the internet, so the demand has dropped considerably as most folks can get what they're looking for simply by googling a search term like "Boston scanner frequencies" or "Cook County IL Scanner Frequencies" etc (drop the quotation marks and insert your town, city, county or state. You may also find websites that are designed to host an online community of local scanner enthusiasts - which trade frequencies, and other info.

Good luck!

Don't waste your time and money on printed listings that are obsolete for the ink is dry. The most complete - and current - frequency listing for your area, and a lot of other useful scanning information, can be found by visiting:

My uniden bearcat 50 channel 800mhz stop the police, fire ect.. and only gives me weather.. why? can you help ?

  • You can try pressing "Manual" and then "Scan" or "Band" buttons from the weather setting to get you back to scanning the police, fire, etc.
  • Make sure you don't have a WX (Weather) frequency programmed into on of the regular 50 channels or the scanner will continue to stop every time around as it will pick up the WX frequency.
  • Make sure you have your scanner programmed as well.

Scanner not picking up local police-Fire freq

Do you still receive NOAA weather frequencies? Sounds like your local agencies have switched from simplex/standard frequency operation to trunking. I suggest you visit www.RadioReference.com to view the latest on active frequencies and systems in your area.

Trying to find codes

If you want police "ten codes" you can get a list online via a google search. IF you want radio frequencies for your local police, fire, ambulance etc, you can enter a google search for "radio frequencies" and the name of your county, state, city.. it will give you a list of frequencies ...print the list and then enter them into your scanner.
keep for reference..
