Follow these directions: From within the VAIO Recovery Center application, under Choose a program, click Create Recovery Discs.
NOTE: The VAIO Recovery Center can be accessed from within Windows Help and Support. Click Backup & Recovery, then click Launch VAIO Recovery Center.

In the When recovery discs are needed window, click the Next button.

Insert a blank, recordable DVD into the DVD drive. In the Insert a blank disc window, click the OK button.
Insert a new disc when necessary as instructed. When all the disks have been created, click the Finish button.
NOTE: After the recovery discs have been created the first time, any disc can be created again by selecting the disc from the list and clicking Next.
From the information provided, I understand that you are not able to create Recovery Disc from Recovery Center. You can launch Recovery Center by using F10 key. For this, restart the Computer keep pressing the F10 keey when the VAIO logo appears. If you are still not able to enter into the Recovery center, it is required to purchase Recovery disc from Sony.

You can create the Recovery Discs for the Computer.
Ensure all open programs are closed.
Ensure all network
connections are disconnected.
Ensure all peripheral devices are

the drive is plugged in according to the instructions in the VAIO User
Guide.
From within the VAIO
Recovery Center application, under Choose a

what are you using to reformat the hdd? if you havent formatted the hdd using any retail version of od disc, youmay try to access the vaio recovery partition.. that is when you restart the computer, then press f10 key repeatedly for 5-7secs. it will load vaio recovery center. then from there, select restore c: drive. follow on-screen instruction and it will format the hdd. process may take for 45mins up to an hour
Possibly you have a programme running in the background that is causing the freezes, could be a screensaver. i think at sometime microsoft will issue an update that will fix this problem.
You can create your own disc from the Vaio recovery center.
If the computer is no longer booting up and the Vaio Recovery center is no longer accessible, you can call sony parts center to check if you can buy a recovery disc for your unit
Sony does not offer the recovery dvd for download. You can actually burn yourself a repair disc, which you then can use to reinstall the OS.

But don't forget to back up your personal data first, otherwise it will be lost for good.
Contact Sony with the purchase date/info & seriel #. They will either replace the disks free or for a nominal charge in most cases. They are the only source to get the recovery disks for your system as purchased. Sorry.
