Hi this is the solution to the issue with the USB Error.
I recently bought one of these head units and found that when I inserted a USB it comes up with a 'USB Error'. Well I searched on Google and found others with the problem but no solutions. So I played around and here is the solution that worked for me.
Try lots of different USB Drives. Mine started to work with the forth one I tried. The size doesn't seem to be the issue as I tried a variety of sizes both small and large. But the one that works is a old one I have had lying about for ages (512mb) so it maybe USB 1 it may not be but that is my best guess.
I have been using the USB almost exclusively now without any problems.
I have yet to try the SD MMC Card so I can't comment on how that works.
Hope this helps somebody out because this seems to be so far a great little stereo, if you can find a USB drive that will work with it.
If anybody still has the User Manual for this I would appreciate it.

i bought a wharfedale wh-180,when i connect my mp3 into the usb it keeps coming up usb error?w.t.f.
I HAVE RECENTLY PURCHASED A WH180 WHARFEDALE CAR RADIO.
EVERTYHTING ELSE ON IT WORKS FINE IE BLUETOOTH PHONE COPNNECTION , BT CONNECT ENABLING BLUETOOTH MP 3 SONGS OFF PHONE .
The problem I have is with the USB port , I cannot connect anything to it comes up error all the time Have tried the following :
A usb mp3 player - Unit has recognidsed it occasionally for a few seconds then cuts out - very limited times it has actually connected , most times staright to error
A usb flash drive with mp 3 songs on it - No recognition at all
A MP3 PLAYER CONNECTED VIA A SEPERATE USB LEAD
ALL THE SAME ERROR
Have taken head unit back to ARGOS AND SWAPPED AND EXAXTLY THE SAME PROBLEM
HAVE NOT TRIED THE SD/MMC OPTION YET - HAS ANYONE ?
Anybody avtually got any make model of usb MP3 PLAYER TO WORK WITH THE PORT?
