I wish to attach a COMPAQ T1000 UPS to my Windows 7 PC and have no software or docs for the UPS. Other than the obvious need for a serial cable for communications, what else is needed with Windows 7? Yes, I have installed new batteries in the unit. It runs the diags okay and seems to be working. Thanks! Jim

As long as the battery is working, Windows 7 and up will see the battery when connected and treat your PC as if it were a laptop when it comes to power management. You will have an option in settings under Power Management that will allow you to tell the computer how long to stay on when it detects it's on battery.

Lights flash and beep every 5 seconds was not working this morning unplugged ups and went staight to wall with components Batteries?

this is an issue that might be batteries or maybe the reset switch on the back. did you check it to see if the surge protection circuit had been tripped? my other suggestion would be to remove the cover to see if you see any corrosion or discharge from the cells themselves. if there are traces of white or green residue on the contacts or loose wires around the contacts then the unit needs serviced. cleaning and battery checks with these are common maint. problem. not sure on the Compaq but i have seen this in the past.

What software do I need to connect to my MGE UPS Pulsar EXtreme 1500C?

The Personal Power Pack (UPS_psp_2_60_02.exe)is the best for MGE UPS,but it has been discontinued for a long time and it runs only on XP and older windows os.
For adjusting the advanced parameters of the UPS,u can use the upsdrv15.exe. This software works only with serial connection.
The only solution for Windows 7 is Eaton's Lan Safe software (since Eaton bought a part of MGE,the UPS is recognised by their software).
These software are not very easy to find, but they're there.

I am trying to install the Singer professional Sew-Ware software on my new computer that us running Windows 7, I had to purchase a Serial to USB cord which I attached and installed the cord. When running...

Singer.com's FAQs provide the following:

Q. My computer only has USB ports. Can you recommend a Serial (nine pin) to USB converter cable that will work with the Professional Sew Wareā„¢ 2.00a? A. We have found that the PSW works best on newer computers when the USB serial adapter cable has not only compatible drivers for the Windows operating system but also a FTDI chip. We have found this FTDI chip in the cable which is listed below:
CUSB-232A available from Computerplug.com and Cablesalesusa.com.
Any USB to serial adapter with an FTDI chip will work. These cables will work for Windows XP, VISTA, and 7.

Make sure you are using correct serial cable, most UPS makers supply cable with UPS very few use normal wiring, so check this first, then visit makers support web pages for help.

I want to upgade my Compaq Presario SR2150NX PC Desktop from Vista to Windows 7. Can this be done? What precautions to I need to take before proceeding?

Hi,

Yes of course you can upgrade your Vista PC to Windows 7.

The only thing you have to do is back all your wanted files like movies, pics, docs etc to slave or storage drive. Then you can proceed to install Windows 7. Just make sure you install over the Vista partition if you are going to perform a clean install.

If you just want to upgrade and keep your settings just pop the disc in while you are using the Vista machine.

If you need anymore advice please post back.

Regards.

Rj45 male to db9 male cable for ups

If you have a BackUPS CS, you are probably either using it with the USB cable that is supplied or with the 940-0128A supplied by APC, which permits running the UPS in dumb mode. By building your own cable, you can now run the BackUPS CS models (and perhaps also the ES models) using smart signalling and have all the same information that is available as running it in USB mode.
The jack in the UPS may be easily use a 8 pin RJ45 connector. It is easy to construct the cable by cutting off one end of a standard RJ45-8 ethernet cable and wiring the other end (three wires) into a standard DB9F female serial port connector.
PC Signal PC pin UPS Pin UPS signal RxD 2 2 TxD TxD 3 8 RxD GND 5 7 Ground FG Shield 4 Frame Ground Though these UPSes are USB UPSes, APC supplies a serial cable (typically with a green DB9 F connector) that has 940-0128A stamped into one side of the plastic serial port connector.
Here is suggested scheme of original 940-0128A cable
APC Part# - 940-0128A computer --------- Inside the Connector--------- UPS DB9-F | | RJ45 pin - signal | | Pin - Color | | 4 DSR ->|---+ | | | diode resistor | 6 DTR ->|---+---->|----///---o kill power | 8 Orange | | 1 DCD <-|----+ | | | | 2 RxD <-|----+----------------+--o low battery| 3 Brown | | | 7 RTS ->|----------+--///--+ | | | | | +--///--+ | | | | 8 RI <-|----+----------------+--o on battery | 2 Black | | | 9 CTS <-|----+ | | signal | 5 GND --|-----------------------o ground | 7 Red | | 3 TxD | | | chassis | Chassis/GND |-----------------------o ground | 4 Black | | | Not connected | 1, 5, 6, 9, 10 --------------------------------------
