Skype microphone does not work

You need to check your audio (sometimes called Sound on some systems) settings (under control panel on Windows or Settings on Mac).

Under input (or sometimes called sound recording), make sure the headset you are using is selected.

You might also try using the headset with another program to see if it will record your voice. (Audacity is free http://audacity.sourceforge.net/. You can download it and try recording on it.)

If it still doesn't work, here is a page on Skype that has a Microsoft tool you can try - https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA897/why-can-t-the-other-person-hear-me

Here is the link for Mac sound troubleshooting on Skype - https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA10885/why-can-t-my-friend-hear-me-on-skype-for-mac-os-x

I have just brought a Logitec Webcam C120 and cannot get any sound. Do I have to get a microphone? When I do the sound test can't get any recording back.

Hi lynne_law ,

Many people mistakenly think that webcam can be used for audio as well as video transmission.

  1. Webcams don't usually come with microphones , therefore you would require a separate microphone for your voice recordings and voice chats.
  2. I would suggest you get a headset which would have the microphone option as well , or you can get a hand held mic.
  3. Once you get a new mic, you need to connect it to your computer by plugging in the mic in the appropriate slot , and by default the mic should work.
  4. If it does not work , you just need to change the microphone settings using the volume control option or audio settings via control panel.
Hope this helps ... ) Your feedback would be appreciated.

When i use webcam sound works fine for sometime but after awhile it just starts making this blasting noice and i cant make it stop...help?

Might need to turn down your microphone sensitivity. Also, if you are using your webcam with a program like Skype, you might want to run through the webcam initial setup wizard.

Internal microphone is default, labtec does not

depends on the software you are using, some progs like Skype have settings to change as well as ones in audio control panel

Computer will not recognize my labtec am-242 microphone

Rt. click the volume control icon from your notification area or the control panel and choose advance settings and make sure the microphone line in level is not at zero. Open your recording program (like sound recorder from Accessories>Entertainment) and you should be able to record sound input from your microphone.
If you're still having trouble, follow the steps here or here (http://www.logicaltips.com/LPMArticle.asp?ID=610)
Also be aware that there's a great freeware recorder available online called Audacity available from here

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

Labtec mic plugged in but not working

• Check all connections for the "(type of microphone)" , make sure the microphone switch is set to the microphone button. • If you are running windows® 95 or later, check the microphone volume settings. 1. Go to the start button, All programs, Accessories, Entertainment(multimedia), then Volume control. 2. Make sure the microphone volume isn't set to mute.
3. go to options, then Properties..., select the button next to Recording
4. go to start button, All Programs, Accessories, Entertainment(multimedia), then click on Sound recorder to test your microphone.
Hope that helped! ~xiviogwiffi

Skype

Audio Setup for Windows XP and Vista

1. Audio settings, in Windows and Skype

XP: Windows Control Panel / Sounds, Speech and Audio Devices / Sounds & Audio Devices
or Right-click speaker icon in system tray and select "Adjust Audio Properties"

Volume / Device Volume: Make sure “Mute” is NOT checked in this window.
Volume / Device Volume / Advanced: If there is no “Microphone” section in this window, go to Options / Properties and check “Microphone” in the “Playback” list. Then make sure “Mute” IS checked in this window

Audio / Sound Playback: Your on board sound/Sound Card
Audio / Sound Recording: Your on board sound/Sound Card
Audio / Sound Recording / Volume: Make sure "Microphone" is selected and the volume slider is at the center or higher
Audio / Sound Recording / Volume / Advanced: If “Microphone Boost” or “20db Boost” is present, select it

Vista: Windows Control Panel / Hardware and Sound / Sound / Manage Audio Devices
or Right-click speaker icon in system tray and select "Playback devices"

Playback: Your speakers or on board sound/Sound Card must appear in this list, and must show “Working”
Playback: Select your speakers or on board sound/Sound Card, then click “Set Default”
Playback / Properties / General: Device Usage: “Use this device (enable)”
Playback / Properties / Levels: “Mute” is not on, volume slider in the middle

Recording: Your Microphone or on board sound/Sound card must appear in this list, and must show “Working”
Recording: Select your Microphone or on board sound/Sound Card, then click “Set Default”
Recording / Properties / General: Device Usage: “Use this device (enable)”
Recording / Properties / Custom: If “Microphone Boost” is present, select it.
Recording / Properties / Levels: Microphone volume should be centre or higher
Recording / Properties / Levels: If there is a “Mute” button, it must not be on

Skype / Tools / Options / Audio Settings:

Microphone: Your headset/mic or USB device or Web cam mic, as you prefer
Speakers: Your headset, USB device or speakers, as you prefer
Ringing: VoIPVoice USB Phone or on board sound/Sound Card; also tick Ring PC speaker

Note: The audio devices you want to use MUST be present in these Skype device lists. If they are not, check the device connections and driver installations again.

2. Microphone and Speaker connections

Check if your mic (pink) and speaker (lime) jacks are in the proper sockets (it is easy to reverse them) and fully inserted (they sometimes stick only partially inserted)
If your microphone or headset has a “Mute” switch, make sure it is not on
If your speakers or headset has a volume control, make sure it is turned up
For test only you can use an earphone instead of microphone (really)! Just unplug the microphone, plug the earphone into the microphone jack, and talk into your earphones. (I know it sounds silly, but it might tell you if your microphone is defective)
A standard microphone plugged into Line In will NOT work.

3. Check audio in Windows.

XP: Start / All Programs / Accessories / Entertainment / Sound Recorder

Vista: Start [Orb] / All Programs / Accessories / Sound Recorder

Make a short recording with the microphone; you should see the level meters moving as you speak. On Windows XP, you can then play back what you recorded.

4. Once done, test with Skype Test Call (echo123).

Microphone does not work

Yes, sometimes Skype messes with your hardware settings and sets it up to what "skype thinks works best", if you have System Restore turned on, try going back to the time before you installed that version of Skype.

Also, look in your Device Manager settings for anything screwy.
